"I'm sorry, Mr. Colman," The woman dressed in a smart military uniform looked straight at him with an expressionless stare, neither judgemental nor sympathetic. "But I'm afraid we cannot accept your identification documents." "W-what do you mean? When I applied for the visa in the first place your people said it would be-" "Nonetheless, we will try to sort everything out as soon as possible. Would you follow me?"
Henry followed behind the woman, a small part of him wondering if he was about to be jailed or executed… or something. It had always been his dream to travel the world after graduating from college, military government be damned! But now it seemed that everything wouldn't go as smoothly as he had anticipated…
"Please go inside." Henry was led into a nondescript room with beige wallpaper, where another girl in a military uniform was sitting behind a desk with a computer on it. Come to think about it, Henry hadn't seen any guy soldiers on the way here… "Sit down, please." This girl had a shock of red hair under her uniform's cap, her purple eyes sizing up Henry like a predator observing its prey.
"I'm going to help you arrange some temporary identification documents… but I want you to answer a couple of questions for me." "O-okay…" "Is your name Petra Karena?" "H-huh?" That didn’t sound quite right to him… but then again maybe it did. "Yeah… it is." Petra suppressed a shiver, getting the feeling that something was changing… but he didn’t quite know what.
"Are you 20 years old, Petra?" Wait, that didn’t make sense… Petra had just graduated from college a couple months ago! But as the seconds ticked by he found himself forgetting more and more of his time spent at uni, the memories of high school becoming more vivid and recent… "Petra? I’ll need an answer." "Yeah… I’m 20." He brushed away a couple of blond bangs that fell over his face, hands tying his now shoulder-length hair into a ponytail without realizing it.
"Were you born in this country?" "Definitely no-..." He felt a small twinge of pain in his temples, features reshaping themselves to be younger, more feminine and attractive. All the while the girl watched Petra with her knowing violet eyes, and smiled. "Try to remember, Petra… this is important." "Ah… yeah! I was born here!" The accent of Petra’s voice had shifted subtly too, his voice now noticeably peppy and girl-like.
Petra shifted in his seat as he waited for the questions to resume, his rear and thighs expanding with some amount of fat to create a shapely hourglass figure. "How would you describe yourself?" Was this really relevant to his identification documents? He blinked and looked downwards, just in time to catch the sight of his chest swelling outwards, forming into what were clearly a sizable pair of breasts intruding on his vision… but Petra didn’t respond or seem to notice at all.
"Hmmm… I think I’m enthusiastic, committed, and responsible!" Was that good enough? Petra’s brown eyes shifted to a clear sapphire as they met the girl’s violet iris, and he waited for her reaction. And yet, it didn’t come. Had he given the wrong answer? The awkward silence stretched on, Petra self-consciously crossing and uncrossing his legs as they lengthened slightly, feet shrinking down so that his trainers were clearly far too large at this point.
"A-ah!" How could he have ever forgotten? Petra’s confused expression cleared, and he brightened up with a smile on his face. "I also want to serve this country to the best of my ability!" Finally, the girl smiled, and Petra felt a rush of relief. "Very well… and what is your current occupation, Petra?"
Was there any question about it now? Petra's casual, ill-fitting outfit melted and warped together into a single overcoat, its color a distinctive dark green as a row of buttons popped into existence down the front… and in the matter of seconds Petra was clad in a military uniform much like the one of the girl sitting opposite him. "I'm a military cadet in our army's Ninth Squadron!"
Not a trace of Petra's previous memories remained, and he waited patiently as the girl finished typing on her computer, and began printing some papers out. "Here you go, Ms. Karena." Petra blinked, swearing she could feel a light twinge in her lower body… but then she accepted the papers with a smile. "Thank you so much!! I look forward to working with you!"
The newly enlisted cadet left the room cheerily, more than ready for her first day of service in the army! She would certainly get to know this country’s culture better, albeit in a much different way from what she could have expected…
