Disclaimer: True, the Soviets took an early lead in the space race; true, the space race “lead” fluctuated over the years between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R.; and true, this woodsy Aesop-esque background hardly finishes well the space analogy I’m trying to draw here. Suffice to say, the last U.S. space shuttle launch this week leaves America looking decidedly post-peak. Huzzah American Exceptionalism.

That said, let it go out with a bang— if not literally. Best of luck to Atlantis and her crew this Friday. May the last launch be a glorious one.
