Description One member of a group who perfomed a "Viking Fighting Show" at BjΓΆrkΓΆ, Sweden. They were honest and told the audience that this helmet was not really Viking-age-style (about AD 800-1066) but from the earlier Vendel Age (about AD 550-800). Of course - an old helmet (sacred family heirloom?) from the Vendel age could theoretically have been used during the Viking age - but it is not very likely. It looks cool, though.

It is a bit sinister-looking, this kind of helmet. I suppose it grew out of fashion since it is rather much heavier and takes longer time to make then the simpler "norman" helmet that was common during the Viking Age.

True! But one can see, if you take away the lower half, the Norman Nasal Helm. That all hearkens back, of course, to their origins as Vikings. Β

I see you have a keen interest in history sir. You have an exquisite gallery. Β

Thank you. The Norman Nasal Helm is of course a simplification and evolution of the Vendel Helm.Β

And yes - I am very interested in history. :-D

Thanks. Not everything is beautiful - generally I try to picture the nice and beautiful places and things. There are plenty of unimpressive and ugly sites too. But why visit them?Β

Even so, your composition style brings out the best in them, methinks. If not aesthetically pleasing, then still interesting, all the same.

Visit?Β

You asked: "But why visit?"

Ah, yes - of course. Silly me. Rethorical question: Why visit a ugly place?

Two possible answers: a) don't Β b) find something interesting in the ugliness.

Well, from your photos you show, Sweden looks like a place where nature just exudes into an idyllic looking land of forest and bays. ^_^Β
