Description (BEFORE ANYONE ASKS, I DID ALLOW THE CRITIQUE TO PASS THROUGH DESPITE THE BAD NUMBERS, AS EVERYONE'S ENTITLED TO AN OPINION. JUST ENSURE YOU MAKE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT AND GIVE ME REASONS WHY YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT.)

Geeze, talk about a bloody cock-up... For the past two months, I've had a file on DA which proudly displayed my Hemp Silk Satin collection of patterns, only one problem though... I accidentally saved just one file (the original) instead of the 20 patterns I did create. So basically, if I didn't offer this for free and charged money instead, I'd be in pretty deep trouble right about now.

However, this problem has been resolved (Sorry for the long wait, I wish somebody would've told me or drew attention to it, over 170 people downloaded it after all) so now, please enjoy my fixed collection of patterns for Hemp Silk Satin; twenty 500x500 patterns that can be used in any photo-editing program, most notably GIMP, Photoshop (and Elements) and I believe SAI as well.

So again, I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this might've caused, but everything should be fixed, and no problems should arise from now on. But I implore anybody who downloads my patterns or brushes... PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check the file works on your program as advertised and if it doesn't, let me know! I cannot stress that enough. Two months of a false file placed on DA... It really sucks when you're trying to help others be creative.

All that said, please enjoy this updated collection! Price is as usual; one view, one download, it's completely free!

P.S. If you do happen to use these patterns, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes, please leave a credit on your work and send me links as well; I'd love to see what you can do.

Oh, and if you want to adjust your sizes for these patterns, please follow these directions at my journal entry. A Word of Advice (For my fabrics...)Hello folks! Lovely day down in Australia!
So, straight to business. I honestly couldn't be more content with the fact that my fabrics, considering I'm not a dA celebrity or anything, have been having great success with the dA community, responsible for gaining over a thousand views altogether and receiving hundreds of downloads.
With that said, I wanted to offer some advice with those patterns that might be helpful in future.
When I made them, they were one size only (500x500 pixels, 200 pixels/inch resolution). However, their sizes can be adjusted in any Photoshop program to suit any project's needs. Here's a bit of a step-by-step guide to doing so: (Please note these are applicable for Photoshop Elements 9, although instructions might be similar for other programs.
Step One: First, make a new document, exactly the same size as the pattern (500x500).
Step Two: Under the Pattern Stamp, select any fabric of your choice and paint it. Ensure that the brush has 100% opacity and you've tic Similar instructions should exist with other programs.

Well, I'm not really interested in satin. But they are beautiful anyway. The colours and pattern are okay to me. But they look more to a comercial stuff than an art. This is because, in my place, this type of cloth is generally used for making long skirt and headcovers such as hijabs. Plus, there are a lot of Facebook pages promoting this kind of cloth to be sold. You know what? you should try to make something out of these clothes. Something creative that people rarely do. They must be wonderful. Good luck and keep up the good work. ^^

The idea behind this is to be used as tools for creating such items. People more creative than myself (at least in the digital department) could use these patterns by themselves to create wonderful items. Think of it as the ingredients one needs to create a great meal...

Personally, based on that fact, I found the critique unfairly harsh. To give me one-and-a-half stars then tell me to keep up the good work, I don't know whether you're being serious or you're mocking me. Just honest feelings. Would you call a 1.5 out of 5 good if it was a meal, or a product, or anything one would buy?

If you weren't really interested in satin, why did you feel the need to critique it? What you see here is what you get. The pattern is a downloadable file for people to use, all of which are adjustable in size (reminds me I need to link the journal article I made). Most of my patterns is meant to give a "feel" of a certain fabric before one goes out to buy it. Sorry if it sounds like a lame reason, but I'm sticking to it, as I've done for the rest of my collection.

That aside, I do agree with the fact that cloth like this is sold; in fact, I simply saved an image, done some colour changes, and defined the patterns; that I won't hesitate to admit. And I don't mean to be confrontational either if you take my response as such. But I felt something like this needed to be addressed, properly and professionally.

With all that, I'll post this critique up, as everyone's entitled to an opinion. And I'll also welcome you to DA as I see you've just joined today. Take care.

I'm really sorry to make you feel bad. I didn't mean to critique you in a bad way. Hmm.. looks like I have to improve the way I used to critique. Again, I'm really sorry okay. ^^

Hey, you have every right to write a critique, and I have every right to critique a critique, know what I mean? And I can understand the low ratings, I mean, this isn't cutting-edge original work or something meant to make a HUGE impact as a piece by itself. I get that, and odds are I reserve that for my poetry or writing. But perhaps you might've been judging this on the surface, rather than for the fact the picture you see is just a preview image while the actual file is a download you can use with any Photoshop program to create wonderful things (assuming you got the imagination, of course).

I would've really preferred it if you went further and judged the file on its own merits and potential rather than just glazing the surface, which is what you seemed to do here. Professional critics will drill down into the core of a subject and really get into the details before they give a valued opinion. (Or of course, like most of them, they could be paid off by big companies looking for positive hype. )

In this case, by pro I mean actually using these patterns on a Photoshop program, seeing how well they work, what sort of impact they CREATE, and how effective they are.

For the future, since you've just joined, you could always leave a comment for next time. Or heck, ignore it altogether. Not everyone has to be entitled to a comment, and once you start joining groups and getting thousands of deviations a day, you will drive yourself crazy trying to keep up. If you weren't interested in my satin patterns to begin with, move on, couldn't get simpler than that.

As for making me feel bad, don't worry, I'd be laughing if that's the worst thing I'm going to experience, for both the present and future.

Finally, I want you to consider this advice: if you critique someone badly because, in your own words "you're not really interested in XXXX (a subject)", it "looks more commercial than art (That's the general idea, download the patterns and get creating!)", and claiming there are several "Facebook/Twitter pages promoting the selling of such and such" (Which might be obvious with a simple Google search in this case) then you may not get such a civil response next time.

Being here for a year I can state with confidence that this is the best online community I've been with, but even they have their limits that they can tolerate.

Critics I believe really need to knuckle down and tell someone EXACTLY why their art sucks or is the best thing since life itself. The reasons highlighted in your critique kinda felt obvious to me.

That said, I have every intention of using my own patterns to create wonderful things, or at least trying to, and I hope everyone who downloads this pattern does the same. Take care now.

It's obvious that I'm not a professional critic right? Well, I guess I learned something about critique things from you. Sorry again and thank you. I'm just 15 anyway.

That's true, but hey, whoever said critiquing was as easy as that would have to be deluded. Even the professionals will get it utterly wrong, and it was your first critique, after all. (And quite frankly, it can get exhausting doing it for too long.)

I'm glad you could take something out of it. It's all fine and you're welcome. You've got many years ahead of you to practice, so get to it!

Oh yeah, it's one of my favourite patterns to use as well. Makes a wedding dress you could "nom" all day long.
