Happy birthday to Grey DeLisle-Griffin! She turns 47 years old today. In case clarification is needed, Erin Grey Van Oosbree, known professionally as Grey DeLisle-Griffin (born August 24, 1973), is an American voice actress, songwriter and singer, having gotten into acting since she was a teenager. She has provided voicework for a substantial number of animated programs, including (but definititely not limited to) The Fairly OddParents, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, the Scooby-Doo franchise, Codename: Kids Next Door, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Xiaolin Showdown, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi to name some. Among her many performances, this collage is dedicated to my personal favorite role of hers and one that’s fairly iconic -- Samantha "Sam" Manson from Danny Phantom.

Although she's pretty unpopular in the fandom, Sam is my personal favorite character from Danny Phantom, and she's a figure I genuinely find interesting and impactful. She is a very headstrong, versatile member of Team Phantom, serving mostly as the group's level-headed voice of reason -- often guiding her peers through some tough dilemmas of theirs -- as well as it's expert on the macabre and paranormal (like in "Boxed-Up Fury"), which I think is pretty cool; she has even helped come across unique ways to fight ghosts -- including turning her new radio station into a weapon in "Pirate Radio" and getting Danny to put the Fright Knight's sword into a pumpkin to stop his carnage in the Halloween special, showing her resourcefulness. She has also got some interesting struggles and facets on her own -- being the daughter of extremely wealthy socialites (seen in "Attack ofthe Killer Garage Sale" and "Control Freaks") who she often clashes with (and only wanting her best friends to know about her wealth) out of wanting to be unique and independent, which I can relate to as I have often strove to be unique in my own ways to live. She also has a fervor for environmental protection and being a self-proclaimed ultra-recyclo vegetarian, which I find quite admirable (even if I'm not 100% on the same page), and her snarky demeanor and cynical remarks often strike me as comedy gold when watching. But what really sticks out about Sam, to me, is her loyalty and tenacity for her best friends. Sure she can sometimes be opinionated and/or create more trouble, but no matter what, she's willing to help out Danny and Tucker with issues of theirs -- even if it's at her expense. Some examples include her getting Tucker to go back to being a tech geek after being labeled "Bad Luck Tuck" in "13", striving to free Danny from trances in "Fanning the Flames" and "Control Freaks", dumping Gregor after he insulted Tucker in "Double Cross My Heart", fought hard to restore Danny's memories in "Memory Blank", and even inspiring him to go back to being a hero in "Phantom Planet" when he gave the role up. They really display her loyalty and helpfulness to the others; and through the cartoon, she gained development by becoming a more open and compassionate figure, particularly through her growing romance-turned-relationship with Danny and the experiences they shared together.

Overall, I think Sam is an excellent character; she's a resourceful and engaging goth girl with a lot of engaging facets and some good development to become a more open and kind individual, as well as an exceptionally loyal friend for Team Phantom and girlfriend for Danny. While it's unlikely we'll be seeing any Danny Phantom reboots in the future, I'll always enjoy Sam's character.

And that does it for this collage. Please be sure to politely leave your thoughts in the comments below. The next VT Birthday collage will (hopefully) be coming up in little over a month from this date, so be sure to stay tuned for who'll be up next. See you around!

Information on the featured voice talent came from respective sources. The Danny Phantom franchise was created by Butch Hartman and belongs to Nickelodeon, Billionfold Inc., and Viacom.
