Hey guys, Austin here. With the anticipated games Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon less than a month away, I thought I would do something Pokémon-related before their release. Today I have for your viewing -- a meme featuring my favorite Pokémon from each of the 18 types. I've been thinking about this for a while, and I'm now fully content with all of the selections I made. To clarify, my meme only features non-legendary Pokémon, because I want to keep it low key for the types and specimens. I'll also note that at any point in the future, some of these entries can and may change. Just be aware of that.

If you'd like to leave your thoughts in the comments, feel free to do so. With that out of the way, let's get started.

************

Favorite Fire-type -- Magmortar

While most may prefer Electivire, Magmortar has always been the one that stood out for me more. Design-wise, I actually think it's cool -- I can look past its facial features, and I really like those arm cannons, which look like they're ready to blast a would-be opponent. Though it is a bit slower than its pre-evolution, that can easily be fixed with Flame Charge. Magmortar has a solid base stat total of 540, with a base special attack that can reach a max of 383. It can also learn a variety of moves that make good use of it too -- such as Fire Blast, Psychic, Focus Blast and even Thunderbolt. In the Sinnoh, Unova and Alola games, if I need a powerful Fire-type for battle, Magmortar often gets the call, and has been a great battler and a fun monster to use.

Honorable mention: Incineroar.

Favorite Water-type -- Swampert

For my favorite Water-type, we have Swampert. Amongst the Hoenn starters, Sceptile and Blaziken seem to be the more popular ones, but I've always found Swampert more enjoyable to use. With a base stat total of 535, Swampert is strongest starter Pokémon, and thanks to its Water & Ground-typing, it also has the fewest weaknesses of any starter. Its stats are pretty balanced for its base form, yet as Mega Swampert its attack can reach a max of 438. While not exceptionally fast, its Mega Evolution does have access to Swift Swim, allowing its speed to double in rain or heavy rain. And with access to great physical attacks like Waterfall, Earthquake, Ice Punch and Stone Edge, it'll be leaving a mark.

Honorable mention: Floatzel.

Favorite Grass-type -- Decidueye

Not only is Decidueye my favorite Grass-type, but he's also my new favorite starter Pokémon (Sorry, Torterra). Of Alola's fully-evolved starters, Decidueye has the most interesting design and concept behind it -- a blend between the Hawaiian pueo owl and the now extinct stilts owl with ghostly archer vibes incorporated. Its personality also best matches my own -- a typically cool & collected figure, but can still get startled by unexpected changes. (You should know.) For battle, its attack can reach a max of 344, which isn't too bad and it can get good dual STAB in the forms of Leaf Blade and its signature move -- Spirit Shackle. It's exclusive Z-Move Sinister Arrow Raid is also my favorite Z-Move.

Honorable mention: Torterra.

Favorite Electric-type -- Eelektross

Eelektross may not rank amongst the most popular Electric-types like Jolteon, Ampharos or Mangezone, but I think its pretty awesome. As of Generation VI, the Eelektross line is the only one without any weaknesses -- all thanks to his Levitate ability.* While its base speed is only at base 50, that can be fixed with something like Thunder Wave or Trick Room. On the other hand, his attack stat can reach a max of 361, which can be boosted further thanks to Coil. Additionally, he has a number of good physical moves to choose from -- like Wild Charge, Dragon Claw, Crunch, Aqua Tail, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, Superpower, Outrage and even Drain Punch! It can also be a good special attacker (reaching max 339) with moves like Thunderbolt, Giga Drain, Dragon Pulse and even Flamethrower, making Eelekrtoss very versatile.

*Unless you have a way to take out Levitate.

Honorable mention: Rotom.

Favorite Psychic-type -- Oranguru

When I played through Pokémon Moon, one monster I absolutely wanted on my team was Oranguru -- one of that version's exclusives. Design-wise, Oranguru really catches my interest. In addition to being based on one of my favorite animals (the orangutan), its shaggy purple fur drooping downward and its fan give it a distinct appearance -- like if he's an elder watching over its jungle habitat. For battle, Oranguru has balanced stats that lean more towards the special aspects. With its decent defensive bulk, it can make a good dual-screener. With Trick Room and a base speed of only 60, it can also be an effective sweeper with access to moves like Psychic, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast and even Energy Ball. He also works well for double battles -- thanks to its Telepathy ability and its signature move Instruct -- which allows an ally to repeat the last move it used.

Honorable mention: Starmie.

Favorite Ice-type -- Weavile

This devious pocket monster is amongst the most popular ones out there, but I can see the reasons as to why. For its design, it looks quite crafty, and the feather crown on its head gives it a sort of regal heir. While his six weaknesses (especially to Fighting-types) can be hard to work with at times, it makes up for that by being amongst the strongest Ice-types. It has a solid base stat total of 510, with its speed reaching a max of 383 and its attack a max of 372, making good use of physical attacks like Night Slash, Ice Shard, Brick Break, Poison Jab and even Icicle Crash! In the Unova, Kalos and Alola games, Weavile often gets the call for when I need a formidable Ice-type in battle, and I enjoy using it each time.

Honorable mention: Mamoswine.

Favorite Normal-type -- Silvally

When watching trailers for the Generation VII games, Silvally caught my interests the moment I saw it. Battle-wise, Silvally has a base stat total of 570, with all of its stats set at base 95. While nothing particularly sticks out, it also makes this Frankenstein of the Pokémon world highly versatile, able to perform many different roles. It versatility also plays out thanks to its RKS System ability, allowing it to change its type when holding a specific memory, as well as the type of its signature Multi-Attack. (Why does that sound familiar? ) The versatility makes sense for its design -- since its based on a chimera. It also has a very interesting back story in the games -- having been a Pokémon synthetically made to kill Ultra Beasts -- only to go berserk and be sentenced to permanent cryogenic storage. That's pretty dark.

Honorable mention: Pyroar.

Favorite Fighting-type -- Pangoro

Although Scrafty had the typing first, I never had it as a major party Pokémon in the Unova games. (Though I do like Scrafty, too.) While playing through Pokémon X a few years ago, I decided to catch a Pancham for my main team, and I had quite a bit of fun with Pangoro -- it was one of my main team members and powerhouses during the main and post-game storylines. Battle-wise, Pangoro's base stat total is at a decent 495 with its attack able to reach a max of 381, which is aided by its in-game abilities -- Iron Fist and Mold breaker and by many powerful attacks like Crunch, Sky Uppercut, Poison Jab, Earthquake and Stone Edge. It also has a pretty wicked design -- a giant panda that has gone rogue by the ways of the Dark-type, ready to beat he daylights out of its opponent.

Honorable mention: Kommo-o.

Favorite Flying-type -- Talonflame

Sorry, Staraptor, but I've settled for a new favorite regional bird -- Talonflame. Though I never got much of a chance to use it in Pokémon X, I got the chance in the post-game of Pokémon Sun and Moon, and I enjoyed having her. For battle, its base stat total is a peculiar 499, with its speed able to reach a max of 386 -- making it amongst the fastest monsters in the game. While its attack only reaches a max of 287, it can be boosted with Swords Dance or Bulk Up, and she has access to some good attacks like Flare Blitz, Brave Bird, U-turn and Steel Wing. Regarding her design, she looks quite formidable -- a fiery peregrine falcon ready to swoop down at go all out.

Honorable mention: Staraptor.

Favorite Poison-type -- Toxapex

Toxapex is also amongst the more popular Generation VII pocket monsters, and I can certainly see why. Design-wise, it's based on the crown-of-thorns sea star -- a large, venomous species of echinoderm that preys on corals -- which ties well to its predatory relationship with Corsola in the games. As for battling, Toxapex's base stat total sits at 495, and the majority goes into is defensive stats. Its defense can reach a max of 443 while its special defense can reach a max of 421, giving Toxapex the best defense and special defense of any Poison-type -- making great use of Poisons quality defense. Its Merciless ability can also allow it to lands critical hits on a poisoned target, which works in combination with its signature Baneful Bunker move, along with dual STAB from Poison Jab and Liquidation. I had so much fun using Toxapex in Pokémon Moon, and it's definitely one of the best Poison-types.

Honorable mention: Crobat.

Favorite Ground-type -- Krookodile

Sorry, Excadrill, but I've made up my mind and settled with a new favorite Ground-type -- Krookodile. First off, this monster has one of my favorite Pokémon designs to date. Krookodile appears to be loosely based on the baryonyx -- a fish-eating, bipedal dinosaur that had a long snout. As for battling, Krookodile's base stat total is a solid 519, with its attack able to reach a max of 366, with many good moves to match like Earthquake, Crunch, Stone Edge, Outrage and some of the elemental fangs. Its in-game abilities really help it out, too -- Intimidate to lower the opponent's attack, and Moxie to raise Krookodile's attack whenever it KOs a target. In the Unova, Kalos and Alola games I've used Krookodile at some point within the main storyline for whenever I need a tough Ground-type, and I always enjoy having this reptile around.

Honorable mention: Excadrill.

Favorite Rock-type -- Lycanroc Midday Form

Sorry to those who prefer the midnight variation. Regarding battling, Lyanroc's midday form has a base stat total of 487 -- the same as its counterpart. The differences are that the midday form is faster while the midnight form is more defensive. Given that Rock is one of the weaker defensive types, I didn't like the way the midnight form is set up. The midday variant in contrast makes better use of Rock's offensive prowess due to its higher speed, which can reach a max of 355 -- which can be doubled if it has Sand Rush! It also has access to some good moves like Stone Edge, Sucker Punch, Brick Break and its signature Accelerock -- something the midnight form lacks. I also prefer the midday form's more composed design and it's personality better reflects my own -- a loner who's also loyal and will never let anyone down.

Honorable mention: Kabutops.

Favorite Bug-type -- Golisopod

Golisopod is easily one of the best Bug-types I've ever used. This beastly crustacean has another one of my favorite designs in the franchise -- a colossal deep-sea isopod with two murderous front appendages that can slice any would-be target -- or even the air -- right into two. Now for its performance in battle. I like the combination of Bug & Water-typing, and I feel Golisopod pulls it off the best. What it lacks in speed it makes up for with power and durability. Its attack can reach a maximum of 383, with many powerful moves like Leech Life, Waterfall, Rock Slide, Brick Break and its signature First Impression to match it. Its high defense and special defense also mean it'll be battling for a while -- especially with its useful Emergency Exit ability. No wonder this is Guzma's main Pokémon.

Honorable mention: Heracross.

Favorite Ghost-type -- Chandelure

This monster's popularity is rather mixed; people either like it for its prowess, or dislike it for its design. I for one love Chandelue. While others don't like it, I actually find the Ghost-type's design alluring (no pun intended) as well as fitting for its origin -- relating to the flames on its body, which are said to burn up lost and unwary spirits. For the battlefield, very few Pokémon do special attacking better than Chandelure; its special attack can reach a maximum of 427! On top of that, it can also make great use of some special attacks like Flamethrower, Shadow Ball, Psychic and Energy Ball, and it can boost its stats with Calm Mind and Flame Charge, making is sweeping abilities even more formidable. I've used Chandelure quite a few times in the Unova and Kalos games, and I always have fun with what this ornament is capable of.

Honorable mention: Aegislash.

Favorite Steel-types -- Metagross

Both my favorite Steel-type and my favorite pseudo-legendary Pokémon. For me, Metagross has always stood out amongst the pseudo-legendaries -- being the only one not based on a draconic creature and being the first pseudo-legendary I ever owned. Regarding its design, Metagross is a well-blended crossing between a spider, a super-computer, a UFO and a lander. Likewise, Metagross is also a well-balanced battler -- having a nice combination of power and durability that makes good use of its Steel-typing -- especially when it Mega Evolves. Mega Metagross' attack is able to reach a max of 427, and with Tough Claws, it an really make use of moves like Meteor Mash, Bullet Punch and Zen Headbutt. I've often used Metagross in the Unova and Alola games as well as the Hoenn remakes, and its always a lot of fun for me.

Honorable mention: Magnezone.

Favorite Dragon-type -- Haxorus

It was quite hard to pick a favorite Dragon-type, but I've ultimately settled with Haxorus. Design-wise, Haxorus just screams formidability -- with it's thick armor plating and those axe-shaped fangs jetting from its mouth, capable of slicing through even steel. For battling, Haxorus is one of the best physical attackers out there; his attack can reach a maximum of 432! Additionally, he can learn many powerful attacks to make use of it -- like Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, Night Slash, Poison Jab and Earthquake -- which can come in real handy if yours has Mold Breaker, and if you equip one with Dragon Dance, your opponent will be done for. In the Unova and Kalos games, and in the Hoenn remakes, Haxorus has often been my go-to monster for a strong Dragon-type, and I'm always eager to use him.

Honorable mention: Garchomp.

Favorite Dark-type -- Drapion

Back in my Pokémon Diamond and Pearl days, I was practically obsessed with Drapion. Regarding its battle capabilities, Drapion works well for both offense and defense. Thanks to it's typing, its only weakness is to Ground, and with Battle Armor, its also immune to critical hits. Drapion can make for a good Toxic Spikes and Whirlwind user, poisoning multiple opponents from the opposite side. Offensively, a Drapion with Sniper and a Scope Lens can take advantage of moves like Cross Poison, Night Slash, Aqua Tail and Earthquake. In the Sinnoh games, I often played around with a Drapion in the post-game, with a Drapion also having been on my Pokémon Black 2 team, with me also using one for the post-game in Pokémon X. It was all tons of fun.

Honorable mention: Bisharp.

Favorite Fairy-type -- Klefki

I bet it's surprising that a more popular Fairy-type like Sylveon or Gardevoir isn't here, huh? Sorry, but for Fairy-types, I find Klefki the most interesting. Regarding the design, it's an adorable key chain, and its mischievous sie that involves collecting keys is pretty peculiar. For battling, Klefki has balanced stats coupled with great Steel & Fairy-typing, and is able to make good use of status moves like Light Screen and Reflect thanks to its Prankster ability. It can also make use of some attacks like Dazzling Gleam, Flash Cannon and Foul Play. In the post-game of the Generation VII installments, I've used Klefki a couple of times and it's pretty surprising to know how good Klefki an be.

Honorable mention: Carbink.

************

And that is my current list of favorite Pokémon from each type. Keep in mind that this is my list of favorites from each type and not necessarily a list of overall favorites, and this may be prone to changing in the future, but for now this is what it is. Which of these did you like? Don't hesitate to tell me. See you around!

Giratina. I wasn't including Legendary or Mythical Pokémon in my version, yet Silvally was included on accident since I didn't see its status change in time.

I may redo this in the future, but it'll be on my terms.

Oh. Now Silvally is officially recognized as a Legendary Pokémon. Whatever -- it's still one of my favorite Normal-types.
