The winter stars are beginning to set in the late evening hours over the Gulf of Mexico, and opportunities to view and photograph them are getting shorter and shorter as the days get longer and the stars set earlier. I did make it out on a clear night recently to get some shots, and this was the best of the bunch. I'm still haven't quite gotten the hang of darktable's noise reduction filters, but I'm working at it. Orion is on the left in this shot and you can see the stars of Pleiades grouped closely together on the right. And there's also a plane...... ......but it's becoming pretty hard to get a shot like this without something moving through the shot, be it a pane or a satellite or something else....

Part of me is happy about the possible transition to permanent daylight savings time, as it will mean "longer" days during the winter, but I'm also a little sad about possibly losing the early sunsets in the winter months which provide extra stargazing time. We'll see what happens with the law, since it's still not a sure thing.
