Battle

Kingdom: Noctil
Class: Dark Mage
Weapon: Tomes
Abilities:

  • Scavenger: Lillian is particularly good at spotting edible flowers or herbs that could be used in a simple healing salve or concoction. Her fifth tutor would often point out these plants during their break time walks. He assumed they would be useful to know, considering how she would often come out of the training room with scrapes and bruises from her latest blunder. It was a subject she continued to hold interest in and even after he was relieved of his duties, she would study them as a hobby.
  • Culinary Talent: Tying in with her love for plants, Lillian put her hobby to good use. Herbs were useful in not just for medicines but for cooking. While she can't cook anything fancy, the herbs she finds make nice garnishes on simple dishes she can scrounge up. She seeks to improve her talents in the kitchen, if she ever has time. Her talent does come in handy to satisfy her large appetite.
  • Magical Potential: Even if it's hindered a bit by her lack of confidence, she possesses a strong magical ability that could go either towards healing and anima magic or dark magic. Provided that she gets in enough training. Hard work pays off!

Personal Details

Personal Positives:
+ Good Learner/Hard Worker: Although she wouldn't think so based on her track record in the training room, Lillian is actually a very diligent student. She has the ability to quickly recall her studies, demonstrated by her talents in the kitchen and with learning herbs and flowers (the tutors who taught her such skills weren't around too long). She is always eager to learn, as long as the topic isn't about weapons.
+ Discreet: You can entrust Lillian to keep your secret, she would never tell! After all, she has one of her own, so she understands the difficulties and importance of holding onto a secret.
+ Friendly/Sociable: Lillian is the kind of person who will happily approach someone and say hello. She's the one who give a short wave to their neighbour when leaving their house to head to the market.
+ Loyal/Protective: Once she's made a friend, she will loyally stick by their side and can even get a bit protective if in a dangerous situation. The last thing she wants to see is her friends get hurt!
+ Imaginative/Inquisitive: Lillian has a mind that can, at times, fly off into the clouds. Her thoughts are harmless enough though and her curiosity is rather fleeting. Occasionally she may ask a question or two, but she often manages to self-satisfy her curiosity by coming up with interesting (or bizarre) explanations. "I wonder why that white flower has red patches on it? Maybe it's absorbed the blood of fallen enemies?"

Personal Negatives:
- Clumsy: Here and there she might trip, or an apple from the tree looming above her will fall on her head. Her clumsiness is associated with her poor luck, and is most noticeable in the training room. Take caution when when giving her a training weapon.
- Low Self-Confidence: While Lillian does have high self-esteem, in that she does believe she can prove herself to her family and do some good for the army, she has low confidence in her abilities after so much failure. Her hesitance towards her magic (her fathers words and lack of support, her conflicting emotions on the subject, from the general values she was taught, etc.) and her lack of confidence holds her back from truly reaching her potential. Despite her training in the army, she improves only a small amount compared to how far she really could go. Until she can break past her own barriers, she will continue to do so.
- Cowardly: Not necessarily in battle, Lillian is cowardly on a more personal front. She would rather not rock the boat, giving off a meek and timid air in the face of confrontation. If there's an argument going on, she would probably push herself to the wall and hope it solves itself. Occasionally she may speak up, especially if she does find she has a strong opinion on the subject, but it's very unlikely.
- Naive/ Too Trusting: While not necessarily a negative trait, Lillian can be too trusting at times. She's quick to accept the good in a person and overlook the bad, which can lead to disappointment for her when she learns they're not all she had thought them to be. Furthermore, she's a bit quick to accept fiction for fact, meaning if you tell her there's a kitten stuck in a tree, she will go climb that tree and insist there is a kitten there until she's combed the entire tree.
- Sensitive: Being sensitive can be a good thing! You can tell if something's bothering a friend or if that guy has good intentions or not. However, in Lillian's case, she can be a bit too sensitive. She may over-analyze something, coming to a conclusion that someone doesn't like her for example, if they don't respond to her advances (when in reality they simply weren't paying attention or were preoccupied in thought) In some situations, she would be the first to laugh or the first to cry.

General:
= Easy to Forgive/Understanding: Lillian is easy to forgive, especially when it comes to friends. She can't even fault her parents for their reaction, based on the information her sister Anise gave her. Though she still remains bitter about the situation itself and hopes to change their opinions, if not about magic, at least about her and her choices.
= Hearty Eater: Lillian would often work up an appetite, be it from her constant training or constant failure (or perhaps her body had to fuel her strong determination somehow). Her siblings have no idea where she packs away her food (and are even more amazed how she manages to eat all the food on her plate while still looking somewhat refined) but they're always impressed. This is one of the reasons she knows how to make simple dishes, to ease of any potential hunger pangs and make mealtimes a normal event. (She'd rather not surprise her fellow soldiers)
= Fun Loving: Lillian is always up for a game of tag or hide and seek. Although, she assumes it would be a professional setting, being in an army after all, she would definitely be the first to volunteer for a race. Though, she can also be a bit childish and is not above pouting when something goes awry.

Likes & Dislikes:
=+ Flower Lover Lillian's love for flowers comes from one of her earliest tutors, where after a particularly hard day of (failed) weapons training, they took a break in the gardens where spring flowers were growing. There her spirits brightened and she learned to make flower accessories. To this day, Lillian retreats to flower fields (if she knows of one nearby) to calm herself on bad days or to relax and have fun. In fact, she could spend hours in one if left to herself, quietly working on flower crowns and necklaces.
=+ Animal Lover: Lillian is particularly fond of the mounted animals such as horses wyverns, and griffons. This is due to her family being mounted fighters, with her father being a Great Knight, her mother as a Paladin, her sister as a Griffon Rider, and her brother as a Wyvern Rider. She would often spend time in the stables with them, getting to know their mounts (partly because she was curious about them and partly because if she didn't, they would mistake her for an enemy...) As such, you might find her visiting the stables, despite not having a mount of her own.
=+ Music: While Lillian has never learned to play an instrument (with all her combat training, they had to cut out a few of her regular subjects sometimes.) she loves to listen to music. If someone's playing an instrument outside in the gardens, she'll definitely sneak by to listen to them play.
=+ Pumpkin Eater: Lillian likes food but she loves pumpkins! She doesn't see pumpkin too often, so you could probably bribe her to do something if you had some. Be it in muffins, breads, souffles, etc. Among those, her favourite form is pie.  She makes a great pumpkin pie from scratch but her signature dish is pumpkin-cinnamon rolls.

=- Fear of Storms: A bit strange for one who can use Lightning magic, it's the booming sounds and unpredictability that really get to her. The loud sounds come from the heavens and what one can't see can often cause fear and panic. It's one thing to create the lightning that is controlled but it's another to see it flash across the sky. For the most part, she will simply hide in her room, hands over her ears and eyes shut. Her siblings aren't there to sit with her now, but as she puts it "It's really no big deal.... I can manage."
=- Poor at Crafts: While Lillian is adept at cooking and mixing a few simple salves, give her a needle and she'll probably end up sewing her hands together. A brush and paper with a request to draw something, the best she can do is something that sort of resembles a horse but is actually a cat. On the flip side, her sister is a great seamstress and her brother is great a painting landscapes.

History

Note 1: A longer (slightly more detailed) version of Lillian's history can be found here .
Note 2: For more information about Lillian's family members and the Whitethorne Family history, please see here !
Spanning generations, the Whitethorne family is well known for their prowess with the physical weaponry and raw strength. Magic was never in the equation for the members of the family and Whitethornes are wary towards those with magical talents. Very likely because of the generations of poor experiences with mages. The mages their ancestors met were underhanded, using manipulative tricks to win a battle or hiding behind another to gain the advantage instead of fight head on. Stories of mages such as these would be passed on to the next generation, slowly painting magicians in a tinted, but never black, light. To the Whitethorne family, magicians would always be there on the battlefield, but they would be a few paces ahead, never beside nor behind. Lillian's father however, has a strong disdain for magic and mages, after his own father (Lillian's grandfather) was betrayed and killed by a trusted friend and sage (he too had looked up to them, but he does not speak further about the subject to his children.)

So it goes, the Whitethorne family continuing the tradition of wielding the blade. Lillian's family in particular (from her father and mother to her older sister and younger brother) are all mounted fighters, skilled in spears and swords.

Lillian however, never seemed to catch on to these weapons. Swords would slip from her hands, spears would end up flying out windows, and axes would be embedded in walls. Shuriken and knives would always miss their target by a mile and after nearly taking someone's eye out with an arrow (which ricocheted off six different points in the training room before heading towards her latest combat tutor) ranged weapons were out of the question. If it wasn't her poor luck that got the best of her, it was the lack of strength in blows that did manage to reach the training dummy. These observations ultimately caused her combat tutor to give in and report the same news to her parents. That their daughter just wasn't fit for physical combat but perhaps an alternative? That would be the day they lost their employment with the family and a new tutor was hired, instructed to limit the options to the blades and continue on where the last had left off.

Ever since her combat training started, Lillian always had a dream of finally being on the receiving end of her family's praise. To prove to them she wasn't a failure; a thing to be ashamed of for not being able to do simple things that have always come to Whitethornes' as easy as breathing. With every failed combat lesson, that dream seemed to grow further and further away.

The cycle went on for years, until her thirteenth combat tutor James (currently her longest-lasting tutor). They had grown close in the moths they spent together, becoming good friends, and after trying all the weapons with her, he too knew that they weren't a good (or safe) match for her. Wanting to help though, he went with his gut instinct and, against her parents wishes, brought in four tomes one day. Lillian's skill with the tomes was impressive to say the least and it surprised them both. James even said she had some real potential to be a skilled mage, perhaps healing too, if she worked hard to study it.

They continued working on magic through the week. Lillian wishing to keep it a secret until she could show her parents at the end of the week when they checked on her progress. She hoped to impress them with her talents, but was met with disappointment and anger that was thoroughly expressed later during dinner. The next day, James was relieved of his duties and her father introduced her fourteenth tutor, Axel. "Don't disappoint me again." he said and the conversation was no more.

Later that day, her older sister Anise tried to her her understand their father's reaction, telling Lillian the deeply rooted family history and the basics of their father's experience with mages, but even she seemed unsure it was a valid reason for such a reaction. All Lillian knew was that her one skill, however strong it may be, would only end in anger and disappointment from the ones she wanted to impress the most and that her one way out of that, would be to pursue something she truly had no talent in.

For the rest of the year, Lillian continued in her studies, now under the watchful eye of her parents. They'd finally taken interest in her studies again, but not for the reasons she wanted. Lillian felt trapped, frustrated, and defeated.

On her eighteenth birthday though, an escape came knocking in the form of a small package. Inside was a letter from James and a Flux tome, hidden under the guise of a combat studies book cover. The letter mentioned how the Noctil army would be a good chance to hone her magic skill away from the watchful eye of her parents, provided she could convince them to allow her to go.

It didn't take Lillian long to make up her mind. If she worked hard enough in the army, perhaps it would be prof enough that she was no failure, no matter what weapon she chose to wield. If anything, maybe she would finally learn to properly use physical weapons there. There's no better teacher than "Live or die" situations, right? It seemed like the best chance she had. She was going nowhere as it was now.

Inspired by the disguised tome, Lillian eventually managed to convince her parents she had decided on a class and would finish her training there, leaving the next day with a determined light in her eyes. She doesn't know what adventures the army will hold for her, but she does know she will not return home until she's succeeded in her goal.

Trivia

Lillian worries often about her decisions to join the army. Having lied to her parents about her true reasons for joining the army and continuing to lie through her letters home, she can't help but fear the day her parents discover she has been training not her strength as a mercenary but her magical ability as a dark mage. From scenarios ranging to her father's sword driving through her, to the look of betrayal on her siblings face, to bringing shame to her family and being disowned, her imagination runs rampant. One of her worse scenarios involves her siblings or even her parents appearing in the army, either joining or just checking up on her. What would she say? For the most part though, she tries hard to shake these thoughts away, but a sigh or two may escape her when she gets time to herself to think.
Why Dark Mage?
Lillian's tutor James sent her only a Flux tome, so she didn't have many options at the time despite showing skill in both anima and dark/elder magic. It's a special tome in that it's her first magic tome and from a friend, but she of course is willing to give other tomes a try! She also believes that, if she must use magic, perhaps her family would be just a little more open to dark magic for it's stronger power. (Since strength is important to a Whitethorne.) If she were being honest, she's not sure how to feel about Nosferatu. To knock down an enemy is one thing but to steal their energy as well seems a bit like kicking someone when they're down. (Though, by her families principle, strength comes in any form as long as it is earned." Which to her begs the question, was the energy technically earned or stolen?)
Squishy
Lillian has very squishy cheeks. Her siblings liked to tease her about it and poke them, but really it was just a way they could fluff her cheeks without looking weird. Even her father used to give them a poke. She herself doesn't think them anything special though.

☂ RP Contact ☂

Little Bits of Info:
I.... Haven't rp-ed very much in recent months. ;w;"
I might be a little rusty and since Lillian is a new character, I hope you don't mind me slowly easing in.
The best rps can be both unplanned or planned. It does help to have a scene or location to place the characters in, so feel free to add prompts if you want to RP~
Furthermore, if you've got certain goals you want to reach in the RP or little things you want mentioned, please tell me beforehand! I'm all for character development~

Method:
Notes and comments are best! Though I'm open to using something like Google Docs or other offline-supportive methods. Instant messengers could be used provided we have a scheduled time and I'm afraid I go on skype so sporadically, it might not be the best option for a consistent role play. ;-;"

Style:
I can do both script and paragraph style, though I tend to default to using paragraph myself. No worries if you like using script though~ ^.^

Timezone:
-8GMT or PST.

Availability:
I have class Mondays-Thursdays (and homeworks ;-; ) Saturdays are when I usually go on Skype. Sundays and Fridays are usually free to check messages all-day, so I'll pop into dA once or twice. The rest of the time during the week, I try to check my messages every day, or at least every second if I'm extremely busy. My schedule is rather dynamic at the moment but if we get an RP going, I'll definitely make an effort to check the chosen location as often as I can! (Thus why offline methods are ideal, but again if you want to set a chatroom time, that can be arranged!)

After three rewrites, I think Lillian's history just brushes the 1000 word cap. (; w ; " )

But it's done, h'omg!
I'm surprised I finished it in only a couple days, wow.
I haven't touched the tablet for serious arts in a while, I actually forgot how to eye. (Wonder if I can revisit that sometime, I just don't have the time now. "OTL)
-Are we allowed weird coloured hair? ;w;

I wanted to make a magic user, but I wasn't sure how to go about it. I just drew. /.7./
Then I thought "What if a mage didn't wanna be a mage? Or was reluctant to mage? But whyyyy?"
Then she became short 'n got pigtails and I screamed at my hands because "I was aiming for cool and serious and this is what you gave me?" but it was a laugh scream, no worries. ovob
And then she swapped from dark mage to mage to dark mage...
And then pumpkins?
Then friends told me about cinnamon buns and squishiness.
Now I think of her as a smooshy pumpkin cinnamon roll.
How do you character create?

I have a few hopes for her if she makes it that far. ;w;"
Mostly I hope she embraces her magic side and gains confidence in her own abilities. She can do it if she just tries, she just needs some support. ;o;
Maybe someday she will realize she doesn't need the praise of her family and instead finds that the only thing that matters is accepting herself for herself. If she's happy with herself, then who needs the rest! >:C
Why, if she nurtures her magic and becomes the best mage she can be. I bet she could start a new line of mages in her family tree that ultimately makes her family stronger.

-Or uhm, something like that. .w."

That aside, off you go to app checks.
I wish you the best Lillian!

I've seen other applicant's apps and they all look so beautiful and then you have this thing and I just, omg.... ;v;"
