The new trailer was released a couple days ago, and most of us noticed Astrid's hold on Hiccup's braid as she spoke with him. [link]
So now I have a baby headcanon that she tugs that braid when she wants him to sit put and pay attention. She just grabs a hold of it and doesn’t let go until she gets her point across. In the most loving way, that is.

Anyway, I really love this! And, WOW, the trailer got me so excited about HTTD 2!
Speaking of braids, did you notice Astrid actually has the same two little braids (well, maybe not two but one for sure) in the exact same place as Hiccup?

I don't mean to ruin your headcanon, but I really need to get this out there. I strongly feel that in this scene of the movie, Astrid is actually in the middle of braiding Hiccup's hair and is only holding onto it so it doesn't come unraveled as she pauses to put her hand on Hiccup's chest. Either that, or she braided it earlier for him and is only holding on to it for the sentiment. But after watching the trailer again, I really think it is the former. It just makes sense, for how strongly she's holding on to it. If she's just playing with it, she should have let it slip out of her hands when Hiccup turns his head, but she didn't.
That being said, I think this headcanon is also very cute. Lovely drawing.

But… that doesn't go against my headcanon at all… I do think she's braiding it right there (because in the trailer Hiccup has one braid at points, and two at others, so another one was created during the film). I also thinks she uses those to get his attention.

It took me awhile to notice she was holding his braid... I like what you put with her wanting him to pay attention, because I bet that might actually be the reason!
