Description "Toothless...Toothless..."

He clambered to his feet, still breathing through his pain. Sweat slid down from his brow—he hoped it was sweat—and he could taste blood on his lip. His face throbbed and his nose pulsated in time to his rushing blood. It was probably bleeding, but not broken. His feet shuffled along the ground and he inched forward with his good arm outstretched, trying to make contact with a wall he couldn't see. His right arm. His wrong arm. He had been reaching for his dagger with this left, which was probably why it was damaged from being held at a hard angle upon impact.

"Toothless..." his voice cracked. His throat felt raw, like he inhaled too much dirt. "Toothless…" ……
…….
Hiccup hit the door again, but this one lacked the fervor and desperation he once so strongly projected, creating a hollow sounding thud that mirrored how he felt.

"Please," he moaned, a dry sob following. "Please..."

Toothless wasn't responding. Toothless was nowhere near. Toothless was, for all intents and purposes, dead.

He killed his best friend. Because he was selfish and childish and so caught up in his new freedom that he was wholly unprepared for when reality snuck up on them.

Hitchups: Sacrificed

:bulletgreen

I was inspired to spruce up an old and forgotten sketch by a piece *inhonoredglory did. Just the whole thing of injured and captive reminded me of the plethora of unfinished, crappy sketches I have sitting on my old computer.

I don't know what's with me and doodling dark-themed things this month. Weird. Anyway, I tried to follow the descriptions I wrote in terms of injuries; you can't see it well, but his broken arm is limp, next to him, all black and blue and red. Nasty.

*Also, I've made it to the Elite Eight, which is the farthest I've ever made it in March Madness and I can bow out happily should things work out like that. I'm currently running against a fantastic artist and wonderful person, and you should all go check out her stuff and vote to your hearts' content .

Hiccup, you and toothless share a wonderful gift. How dare those "Vikings" take him away from you.
Love the Fanfic by the way.

I remember this scene in you book! My heart broke when Hiccup felt the hot tears slide down his cheek...and then he didn't even bother to wipe them away... Aaaaaw bud!!

Writing this scene was emotionally rough for me, but who doesn't love a little angsty bromance every now and then?

I think you did a marvelous job of helping the readers to get to know Hiccup slowly... We saw Hiccup as a young lad when he left...And we got the privilege to follow along as he went through the change... And this was the first time (I think) in your story...Were we saw a tiny glimpse of the younger Hiccup again... Seeing this amazing man, so broken...Hiccup just seemed like he'd gone, and turned back the clock! It truly added even more depth to Hiccup's character, and the story you wrote!

:Wow: You are so sweet, seriously. I tried really hard to show Hiccup's development without losing him. I wanted his core beliefs and strengths to always anchor him to his best friend. He does seem to gain control of his life, grow more confident, but when his world falls out from under him he feels like he fell a thousand steps back and is nothing more than the child he always was--terrified to be without his best friend and only constant.

Breaking amazing men is also kinda fun

Breaking an amazingly real character such as Hiccup just makes him feel even MORE real! Because so often the main leading male character in a movie/story is perfect, has no flaws, is macho...

But then...It's not until a hero comes along that isn't the "ideal hero"...And something about a character that has the flaws/imperfections, and STILL chooses to do what's right no mater what the consequences.... That is what truly, truly makes the story come to life!!

So..That said... Seeing such a hero such as Hiccup, with his flaws n' the like...Seeing him break after he'd already gotten so far... While it breaks the readers heart...(breaks their heart for the character) It further instill with in their mind that this character really IS REAL!!

You know it's a good story when you see the hero sink to the ground as hot salty tears run down his bruised cheek...and you can't help but whimper to the computer screen...
"Oh Hiccup! It's ok bud...You are not alone!"

There were SEVERAL moments I had, that caught me off guard while reading Hitchups. I seriously had to stop reading...and concentrate on my breathing...

I commented on Tumblrm, but I like the coloring you did here. made a lovely drawing to influence as well to influence this sketch.

You got the heat, the pain, the desolation, the long hair, the injuries and the wild man look down really well. I did also catch you got the broken arm accurate. I had shown that in my art of this chapter, and I am glad you are also showing it, nasty as it is to contemplate. To me I see it more as showing how much endurance Hiccup had to deal with this and his despair and being ridiculed and beaten up by Varingians.. and then sacrificing himself for Toothless.

I've been into artistic dark stuff, too lately-- I think nuch of it is stemmed by this being (for Christians) Holy Week and the various messages of endurance of pain and sacrifice to help others.

Anyway, 'nuff of that. This is a really good drawing and coloring.

Oooh yes, I saw your tumblr response! (but tumblr is harder for me to respond to responses). I'm really glad I captured all the elements of the moment I was hoping too. You know, I probably had your broken-arm drawing in my subconscious when I made all the bruising and darkness about it. He was wild and broken - two perfect words to describe him in that moment.

You know, that's a good point about christians and the artistic dark stuff… maybe it has all been in my subconscious this week!

Anyway, thanks so much for the comment!

BWAAH, Hiccup! This was my favorite part of "Hitchups" because Hiccup was so brave and determined even when in prison, and he took ages to recover.

Yeah, it was a bit rough writing it, if I can remember correctly. I'm glad you liked this part so much though.

Thanks! I think it's like that moment in the Princess Bride when Westley's in the torture chamber; it's such a powerful moment.
Also, I applaud you for going in such a direction and allowing Hiccup to rise stronger from this encounter.
