Description PART 11

EXT. SIDE OF SHIP

(Everyone looks in the direction Grimsby’s pointing. They all gasp & then a hush comes over the crowd. Ariel has FINALLY managed to climb onto the deck. She’s soaked, bedraggled & on the verge to collapse.)

ERIC: (amazed to see her again) Ariel!

(She starts to faint, but Eric rushes over to her.)

VANESSA: (shouting) Eric! No, Eric, stop!

(Eric embraces Ariel & cradles her in his arms.)

VANESSA: (cont.) No! (in Ursula’s voice) Get away from her!

(Everyone reacts in shock as Vanessa’s youthful voice changes to the LOW CROAKY voice of the Sea Witch. She quickly covers her mouth with a reaction that says, “Did that come out of me?”)

(Eric looks deeply into Ariel’s eyes. The emotions well up inside of him. He slowly leans forward, about to kiss her.)

VANESSA: (in Ursula’s voice, screaming) NO… !!!

(The last rays of sunlight DISAPPEAR over the horizon. The reflection of the light on the water disappears. Ariel can feel her body starting to change. She gets a panicked look on her face & pulls away from Eric.)

ERIC: What’s wrong?

VANESSA: (in Ursula’s voice, cackling) You’re too late! YOU’RE TOO LATE!!!

(Ariel frantically breaks away from Eric & DIVES into the water, just as the lower-half of her body glows magically & changes back into her mermaid fin. Eric observes this transformation in wide-eyed disbelief. The witch’s off-screen voice is CACKLING victoriously. Everyone turns to look back in the direction of Vanessa, becoming horrified as she TRANSFORMS back into the Sea Witch & dives into the sea.)

URSULA: (to Eric, before diving) So long, lover-boy!

I think Rebel Wilson could be Ursula in a TLM live action.

She could play her if Harvey Fierstein says no. Although I hope they don't cast other people who've played the characters before in live concerts (like Tituss Burgess as Sebastian or Norm Lewis as Triton). Not that they're bad, just that it's been done before.

And Saoirse Ronan could be Ariel so JMB Studios could make a mermaid tail for her.

She seems a bit old. I think Ariel will be some newcomer.

Ah, farewell, Vanessa, seems we hardly knew ya.

My favorite thing about this one, in terms of completing the Vanessa subplot, is probably the script, actually. I really have enjoyed your little additions, where they've happened. As for the art itself? Actually, I really, really like how you've done Ariel here. You capture some real eeriness. And I like seeing the glow of the magic, in her eyes too. And the sort of damp hair.

As for Vanessula (suspended between the two forms as she is)? Obviously it's not one of her best looks, but you've done a great job there too, capturing the dynamism. I adore the way the dress is just sort of shredding apart, the swept back hair, the skin weathering. On that note seeing her still with the necklace intact might be the most powerful part of this. I mean, I know that that's the original script, but losing the necklace, the voice, and even her cover in such quick succession is just such a pivotal moment in the film. And it's interesting that you chose to go with the tentacles first. As an artist, it allows you to do more with the facial transformation and makes total sense (I recognize illustration you're going with there too), but a small part of me is still pretty partial to transforming, bodice first.

Great job even if I have to say goodbye to Vanessa

I didn't really add anything major script-wise. Yeah, Ariel was interesting to do. It's mostly based off another deviant's art, with a similar pose & actually showing the legs/feet/fins. The eyes were kinda based off Ego attacking Star Lord "as a battery" in GOTG 2.
The angle I went for with Vanessula (nice name) was essentially after Eric's curse broke, she slowly started turning back into her original form (like the Pollijuice potion from Harry Potter wearing off). Thus you have not just the tentacles and voice going from Jodi to Pat, but the hair and skin colors blended, facial and body parts resizing, etc. In the animated one, it's just the voice & sort of the face. I wanted to play around more with the morphing. The tentacles I also feel would only take place when Ursula OFFICIALLY decided to turn back, whereas the rest of the spell wearing off was more against her will.
