Description I've always been fascinated by the poster of Julie Taymor's film 'Titus' (based on William Shakespeare's play 'Titus Andronicus') featuring Anthony Hopkins in blue warpaint, and after seeing the movie last night, I felt I had to draw it. Photo-reference used, of course.

I liked this film as well, especially for the type of world that it takes place in. Do you know if there are other works of fiction with a similar world?

I'm not sure, but I think there's a 'Richard III' starring Ian McKellen and a 'Coriolanus' starring Ralph Fiennes that might be in a similar setting.

That's cool.

I remember once wanting to write a fantasy novel that, other fantasy novels, takes in a world made from scratch, but with a modern appearance similar to Titus (or Final Fantasy VII/VIII/XV). Eventually I scrapped the idea when I failed at searching for other fantasy novels with a similar appearance.

After that, I just assumed that there was an unwritten rule that unless it's science-fantasy (like Dune or anything that uses Mars as a setting) or urban fantasy, all fantasy books must take place in a world that ranges somewhere between sword-and-sandal and/or high fantasy, unless it takes place in a world influenced by the Victorian era and had steampunk elements. Not only that, but apparently video games and graphic novels can get away with breaking this rule.
