Description Watching reruns of DBZ prompted me to make this- in the image of the baddest mofo to grace to long-running anime. Here, Cell appears in his Kamehameha stance (note the small energy ball), and his intense power is even causing the rocks around him to shatter and rise in the air (I know, it's corny, but I love it).
He's 7 inches tall, and 9 inches from hand to wing tip (here's an overhead view: [link] )

It Looks like his arms would drag on the floor if he were to stand upright.

they are a little long, but the picture from this angle is deceptive. There's a lot of torso you can't see because he's leaning over.

I've never liked DBZ but that doesn't make this any less amazing. o_o The arms head and torso are shaped 'erfectly'. Nice and smooth with some good painted textures. And the rocks coming up from the ground. I'm suprised by how good that looks. My only suggestion would have been to give the stand more detail as it makes the overall piece look a bit unfinished. Good stuff though.

Nothing is actually painted (that is what you meant by painted textures, right?). It's all just different colored sculpey.

As for the base, do you have any suggestions? I've never paid much mind to bases because they're more of a means to an end (that end being to help the figure stand), but I would gladly take some advice if it could make them look better.

Oh, and thanks for all the favorites!

Ahh, that's why the colors look so clear. No brush strokes messing up the shine.

Suggestions? Well, I'd say that if you're going to draw attention to the base like you have with the 'floating' rocks, you should make the whole thing look just as polished as the figure. Maybe some angular rock cuts or something like that. I tend to go for the completely basic look but since I do it that way, I like to make them smooth and even. I like giving my figures oval bases... just make sure they're big enough. x_x I just finished my Zack sculpture (Zack and Wiki, not Cloud clone ) and he tips back if you breath on him. haha oh well.

One question...how do you get your characters to stand in those poses? Do you use some sort of inner skeleton (using, say, wire), then apply the Sculpey around it?

Just curious. Awesome.

yeah, there are wire frames.
My first few pieces (which are not in my gallery here...) were small enough and in simple enough poses to remain stable without a skeleton, but I realized soon after that more complex things would need a solid structure.
