Description Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a bonus ranking where I will do an extra small ranking for the Mario Movie. I did already talk about the film three times in my review, Illumination Ranking, and my Top 5 Best & Worst Movies Of 2023 post, so I'll do something simple by pointing out the songs in the movie that are mentioned in the credits. Most of the soundtrack is cinematic themes by Brian Tyler and the themes being originally done by Koji Kondo, but the movies nowadays seem to be interested in adding in licensed music.
I figured that Chris Pratt is casted in the movie, so if Star Lord can have his own mixtape, then so can Mario.
With that means said, let's turn this radio on!

11. Battle Without Honor Or Humanity - HOTEI
Honestly, this theme is really awesome, I really adore it in such badass scenes, but here's a reason why I placed this on the lowest ranking...it is short. It's only been used at the beginning of the film right where the penguins start attacking the Bowser Army, but then immediately stops to point out a reallistic joke. Sure the theme is great in Kill Bill, but if they wanted to cut very short with this theme, then at least make it a little longer. That is all.

10. Habanera (Carmen) - Angela Gheorghiu
I'll admit that the song is a classic, and it has been used in a funny scene where the Mario Bros accidentally made a big mess with the water pipes thanks to that angry mutt, but maybe perhaps it's a little TOO classic, some kids nowadays don't even know what classic music is, they mostly prefer modern hip-hop and raps. This song is long for it's appearance time, but keep in mind that nobody listens to classic music anymore. Well, except me, but you all get the point.

9. Mr. Blue Sky - ELO
Honestly, I don't know much about this song. Sure it has been used in Guardians of the Galaxy, but I haven't heard of that song in a while until I see the movie. It is pretty catchy, but on the other hand, much like the Kill Bill theme, this one also only appeared for a few seconds but this time right at the end where Mario & Luigi are gonna head to work. I guess it was just a major Chris Pratt role coincidence, but then again, it was played in Mario's radio so I think this one is just common for the most part. Enough said.

8. No Sleep Till Brooklyn - Beastie Boys
This one I have only heard from The Secret Life of Pets, but that's about it. That song is accurate to where Mario & Luigi lived, but unlike Mr. Blue Sky, it's not really that catchy. It's mostly a simplistic rock that plays straight and that's all you need to know from it. The real reason why I put this higher it's because it's a little longer and it plays on a side-scroll level during the beginning.

7. Take On Me - a-ha
This song has been in a big controversy. They find it the most pointless and confusing, it appeared when we are introduced to the Kongs during the driveway. Think about it, this song has also been used in Teen Titans GO! To The Movies where the titans are using their time-cycles, look familiar? That's because the Mario Movie is made by the duo who has also made the Teen Titans GO! Movie. They both have tons of references, great villains with a great voice actor performance, amazing action scenes, having those films be hilarious, and especially making the effort be necessary when it comes to novelty. I'll admit that they could've used different music, but comparing this song used to the other movie also using this song is understandably comparable.

6. Attack! Fury Bowser - used from Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
The theme is really sick, not gonna lie. I remember making a review about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury back then, and it still holds up well to this date. The theme itself has been played when Bowser is on screen where he explains his plan, he even hires a rock band to play that. There's nothing much to say about it, it's just a theme from a game and it's too simple. Moving on.

5. Mario Brothers Rap - Ali Dee
Ah yes, that one classic theme from a classic Mario cartoon, it never gets old. However, it has been fully remastered for the movie and has been used as a theme for the Super Mario Bros Plumbing. It's cheesy and funny. This reminds me of that one Mario Super Show review I have done before and that one is still good. All I can say now is that they have spent their life-savings to make their commercial...yep.

4. DK Rap - used from Donkey Kong 64
Oddly enough, I liked the DK Rap more than the Mario Brothers Rap. That's because it introduces Donkey Kong's return as a 3D game for the N64 called Donkey Kong 64. It's very catchy, cheesy, cheeky, and funny by meme sakes. The song has been used in the movie where Donkey Kong has been introduced as a show-off celebrity, we get to hear freaking Seth Rogen's voice coming out from his mouth. All I can say now are the memes I adored.

Singer: And then there's Chunky, HE'S DEAD....NOT FUNNY, DIDN'T LAUGH!

3. Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Man, that song is very sick. It plays during the main characters choosing their karts and drive with the Kongs. It just sounds too good and too cool, and I love it. It even makes the movie be cooler for what it is, including that flipping Rainbow Road ambush scene, THAT WAS EPIC. All I can say now about it is that Peach is thirsty for Mario after being asked to get a pet turtle while she responses "Maybe I Will~". Dude, she must be freaky, no wonder why she always rejects Bowser, she prefers small Italian Brooklyn 𝗠𝗘𝗡.

2. Peaches - Jack Black
Like I said in my review, Peaches is literally my earworm, it has been stuck inside my head nonstop. It's beautiful, it's hilarious, and it's embarrassing (in the good way). Jack Black did an amazing job at the singing performance, and the song has been used both during the movie and at the post credits scene.
Whenever I think about that song in general, it's more earwormy than Let It Grow from The Lorax, more earwormy than Super Cool from The Lego Movie 2 The Second Part, heck it's even MORE earwormy than We Don't Talk About Bruno from Encanto, it's THAT good.
Bowser sure is "coming", but sorry, his "princess" is in another castle with Mario.

1. Holding Out For A Hero - Bonnie Tyler
This is literally the most accurate song they can EVER come up with. It has been used as a training montage theme, so you probably think it's just nowhere near as good as the one from Shrek 2, right? Think again! This one is super epic too! The more you look into the details, not only is it used as Mario's training destiny, but it has been shown that there has been taken place both at night and in the morning, which makes TOTAL sense that there are lyrics that say "till the end of the night" and "till the morning light". It also perfectly suits the entire movie and the games that Mario was based on. Mario & Luigi are the good men gone to fight the rising odds. Mario is the white knight of the Mushroom Kingdom upon a fiery steed (Yoshi). The Mario Bros have BEEN holding out as super-a-heroes, they are gotta be larger than life when they eat the mushrooms. Somewhere after midnight in their wildest fantasy, they went beyond Peach's reach and Bowser's been reaching back from her.
See what I mean? Told ya it's VERY accurate. I'll admit that it's pretty accurate in Shrek 2 as well, but that one is just ahead of it's time and can never get old. For the Mario Movie however, I know it only lasted a minute or two, but at least you get to fully understand of how the genre of Mario works. Surprisingly enough, according to the credits, in case if you were wondering why this version of the song sounds different from the original version, it's actually because they added extra vocal performances just to make it sound fresh and new while having the main singer nail her performance to take over Bonnie Tyler's role, there's even more of them on YouTube like Annapantsu for an example.
I-i-I-EYE-gosh damn, I can't anymore, it's too perfect. Honestly if Peach dresses up in a sexy red sparkling dress while laying on the piano while holding her microphone, and have Anya Taylor-Joy sing the entire song, then THAT would be phenomenal.
I'm pretty sure there's more songs coming for the sequels. What's next, Livin' La Vida Loca?

Alright, that's Mario's mixtape. Now if you excuse him, he's gonna use the star launcher to fly into space to become the Super Guardian of the Mario Galaxy.
See ya later, ladies and gentlemen!
