I know you buy the foam ones pretty much anywhere now, but honestly, that foam is pretty hard. I wanted to make something you could WHACK someone with and be free of the fear of permanently damaging them. Considering it feels like a giant pillow, I think it was a success.Made of felt, some fake leather we had lying around (the brown on the hilt) and some light gray fleece (leftover from the totoro), this was painstakingly sewn together by hand, square by square, to create that pixel look. Took awhile to complete and was mostly done while watching the walking dead and other shows, but I like the result. It was stuffed with some seat cushion foam we had lying around. Few people will probably read this, but I hope that gives insight on how it was made and hope if you have a lot of time on your hand, you'd be driven to sew your own! (its actually quite fun!)
Minecraft stuff goes to minecraft though technically the pixel art of a sword could really be found anywhere.
Font is from Dafont, called minecrafter, its pretty awesome.
The Sword was given as a present of sorts, and has gone to its rightful wielder.

Honestly the only tips I have is patience, it takes forever and it'll take a lot of squares. That and watch out when stuffing the handle. I used foam (like the type used to stuff seat cushions) and the way I cut it to fit it in made the point weaker than I had hoped due to nothing really connecting the hilt stuffing to the blade's (hope you don't even have a problem with it) Good luck!

Came here from Spritestitch so definitely rethink that! Think I may have to make one too... there must be a way to sew up a line of the squares at a time, like quilting? Maybe too much maths involved though... don't know if my patience can handle that!

And I say you should definitely go for it! Probably could easily use the sewing machine, i just knew that sewing a bunch of 1in portions would frustrate me and wanted to do something productive as I lazed around watching TV (if there's ever a marathon on and you have some felt, patience doesn't have to come in play

To be honest I usually end up hand sewing as I can't be bothered to get my machine out, it's also a vintage hand-crank Singer so it takes nearly as long anyway! (and my right arm starts to go dead after too long ) I can think of a few TV series I need to get through By the way, is it identical on both sides?

I know they sell harder foam versions online (like at thinkgeek) and at hot topic. Plush versions is a challenge to tackle yourself on a boring rainy day

Aw, thank you so much! and not exactly sure on time, didn't exactly work consistently on it, mostly worked on it while watching tv/catching up on the walking dead. it was about 3months, though working straight would probably only be a week?
