Description The previous owner of the Corvette GS Roadster, George Wintersteen, had this spare body made so he could run the car at events guilt-free and keep the orginal body in good shape. He had the good taste to get it made in that lovely Chevy Blue from the period.

If you're not familiar with the Grand Sport Roadster, you may think- "that's a damned fully-lookin' 'Vette, somethings not right..."

It's basically a 7/8ths scale Corvette to save weight, which is why it looks a tad odd.

Odd looking? Nah, it looks about right to me. Just gimmie the keys and I'll take it off your hands pronto.

Well, there were only 6 built- all still exist-- and it is a running 7/8 scale model of the C2- it's just a bit different when you look at it as compared to normal production vettes of the era, even ones set up for racing. Compare this to one of my Father's friend's racing vettes in period and you'll see what I mean. Look at the car at 13 seconds. that's Bob McClure's car, a ery nice gentleman to me BITD and Dad helped him pit crew that car:

Wow It is so cool you got to see such an iconic Corvette. I've been fortunate to have seen lots of cool cars but I've yet to see a C2 Grand Sport Roadster. Here's a C2 GS coupe I saw Cars & Coffee in Irvine: [link] & [link]

Looking at that car, I have to wonder if that's a replica, a very nice one, though. Someting's not quite right about the rear body. Similar livery to the one Jim Hall may have driven. have to look the car up.

Awesome!!! Did the Fast Five Movie used a Corvette like that one in their movie?

From the look of the trailer they are certainly using a replica or something made to look like one, yes.

These cars are way too valuable and rare to toss one off a cliff, and none were ever made in silver.

This is one of TWO GS Roadsters built by Chevrolet, long story- need to ask the Simeone people the entire situation in regards to what original parts are in THIS one in this pic. Look at my other pics to see the original body of GS002 as it exists now. This body was created later to reflect the original form and color of 002's body so it could be driven without fear of damaging the original which had been modified later for racing..

There are so many conflicting issues regarding these cars as well. They're NOT a normal 1963 or 4 Corvette. not at all, the bodywork is totally incompatible, lightweight frame, parts, engines, etc.

Neat they use a fake one of these in the movie- quite the getaway car

Thanks for sharing the info, LOL.

It's been fun to share this car with people, the Grand Sports are VERY rare and unusual.

I really need to make it to Simeone when they do a live demo of the cars, which they do once a month. Either weather conspires against me or something else comes up.

Eventually they will run this car or the white one.

And guess what, they're running one of them Saturday, and I have too much to do here, LOL.

This is the odd thing about it- I need to talk to Doc Simeone or a real Corvette expert- I *think what is in *this* car you see is an exact copy of the original Special Chevrolet engine used in the Grand Sports- a special 377 Cubic Inch V-8 engine (a stroked 327) with a cross-ram intake and 4 Webers. I've been researching on the Web. The original body with the Penske 427 that was fitted to it is in the main museum, and I do have a couple of pics posted of it. I'm thinking they put the original body, the 427 motor, and the original chassis back together, and that what you see is the exact repro engine, the duplicate body, and another chassis obtained or also fabircated for the car.

This is basically an exact replica of Grand Sport 002 is my educated guess as it was around 1964. grand Sport 002 is in another part of the museum as it was raced in 1966.

Thanks for all the nice info... Yup sometimes, we need to talk to someone who know more than we do.

But else you just were a victim of my insane humour. As it's a 7/8 scale they might have made the V8 to a V7...
