Description
Hello yes, I have a picture from May (two months ago) that I never posted and don't really have a reason for it.
There's another art that I finished just a couple days ago that I plan to post soon, so hopefully I don't forget about that later.
Anyway, as far as this artwork, I came up with the idea for it when listening to a cover of The Wellerman that I happened across while searching for some new songs to listen to.
The story I came up with is that this Storm dragon, Desert Rain, got a bit of a reputation for having a bad temper. She spends a lot of time swimming around the ocean, and a lot of sailors got quite scared/superstitious of her, spinning fantastical tales of her being a spirit of wrath that, if you ever come across her, would wreck your ships. Though she never took a soul to the depths.
So, a group of sailors decided to go out and hunt the Tyrant of the Seas, planning on freeing the ocean to be safe to travel. ...And get some fame along the way.
Problem is, the main reason she ever actually attacks ships is in self-defense from them shooting first.
Long story short, she demolishes their boats, then carries the crew back to shore, a little worse for wear.
And so the cycle of haughty sailors thinking they can take down a fully grown dragon in her preferred habitat, failing, and then spreading the word of how vicious and terrifying she can be, continues.
Also because I was listening to the song on repeat while drawing so I could keep the scene in my head, I found a few different covers to listen to, since listening to the same thing over and over becomes grating fairly quickly for me. These two, along with the first I linked, are my favorites.

Also a couple things about the idea behind her name:
First, in draconic, they generally refer to things by description, such as calling ash or soot "life/growth dust", since you can use it to help grow plants. However, generally when translating to other languages they just go with whatever makes more sense. Such as with english, they'll usually just have it be the the word being described.
Second, dragons generally all have a "baby name" and an "adult name", the first is for when they hatch up until their third or tenth year, and is generally appearance-based, a bit like how one may call a pet Spot, Blue, or Fluffy.
The adult name, however, is a concise description of A. their personality, B. their skill set/talents, or C. a mix of both.
So, with "Desert Rain" as her adult name, it's a mix of both in a way; since deserts are normally hot and dry, but when they rain they absolutely pour. The name refers to the juxtaposition of her magic; having the rare quality of being bi-color; intense magenta and turquoise, as well as her personality, which is normally very serene and sweet, but if driven to the point of anger, she can be one of the most devastating dragons of her age.
Also she's from the lineage of calico storm dragons, which, normally still have only one magic color. She's a rare gal.
The only one of the three main races of dragon (Aurora, Storm, and Volcanic) that have multi-color magic as a baseline, are Aurora dragons, which generally an individual dragon will have a set of 3-5 colors that his or her magic fades between, as with the aurora borealis.
