Description This is an entry for THIS contest, hosted by , with the central theme being Myths.

Edit: I did not place in the contest, but oh well.

Quite LEGENDARY.

Greek myths are my favorite, and because I challenged myself to illustrate a lesser-known subject, I chose the Oneiroi brothers Morpheus and Phobetor.

Morpheus is the god of dreams - he is basically in charge of dream oversight, and being a son of Hypnos (the god of sleep), that's pretty easy (albeit busy). In my mind's eye, he prefers pleasant dreams that help lull humans to sleep, rather than disrupt the cycle guided by his father.

Phobetor, on the other hand, is the creator of nightmares. He is often known to take on the form of beasts/monsters, and descend into dreams to frighten humans awake. I imagine he enjoys the creation of darkness more so than the terrifying of innocent humans merely because of how his mind works.

Both god-brothers (and most of the Oneiroi who live in the dream-world) are depicted as winged in most classical art, although the origin is generally disputed (if they were gifted or if the dream creatures were born with them). I decided to go with wings because it's easy to distinguish them that way... plus, wings are fun to draw. At any rate, Morpheus and Phobetor don't have nearly as much lore surrounding them as other Greek gods, but the enigma makes their existence more beautiful.

Heh, you're welcome, and thanks very much! Mythology is one of my favorite subjects. I dunno why I don't submit more of it.

!!
You really captured the mythology feel quite well. That, and it looks like the cover of a book I would read in a heartbeat. :}
Morpheus' hair is so Greek-Mythology it's hilarious, and Phobetor (I didn't actually know about him before now! ) has that look of a really fantastic dark hero. I think I've mentioned before how much I love your style of drawing wings, but I shall do it again. They look fantastic, so fluffy and unique.

Thank you. I knew about Morpheus beforehand, but I discovered Phobetor for the first time as well. It was lots of fun to design them. Thanks for the feedback!
