Description
In commemoration of our new feline overlords. I for one, welcome them. Plus I really want a cat badge.
Actually this was just the perfect inspiration I needed to get my butt in gear and finally draw this picture I've been wanted to do since August of 2010!
I really hope you guys all like it! Good practice for me to try and draw animals again!

I love this picture Azzie and I think you've made it more charming in your rendition of it than the original photo. The cat is drawn really, really well. First of all the outline is great - every line in place. I love the toes! And the ears and face shape are spot on.
Next, I love the way you've done the fur. It's very subtly shaded underneath and the darker lines to emphasize the stripes just really work. It looks great on the legs but even better on the ears! The little subtle shading where the long hair goes on the ears is done nicely
The leaves are good to give a general effect but there are ways you could make it better. I notice they are quite strange spiky leaves in the picture, which you have drawn, but the shading doesn't quite match (by shapes of lighter/darker, that is). Also about the shading - a good way of making it look more effective is to incorporate the shading into the lines, for example have it go darker all the way up to the line and then changes to the highlight on the other side. I don't know if you can see what I mean on this ? It's not a great example
I think actually you are a bit inconvenienced because the lighting is quite flat in the original (there was a flash, so the light is coming from exactly the same place as the viewpoint, which means you can't really see any shadows) so maybe that's not your fault.
I do think you've done the trunk of the tree really nicely though. A nice combination of detailed lines and shading in just the right places. This is gonna seem strange but I think you've done the "junction" of tree and branch right next to the cat's ear really well! The soil is also done really well, just the right combination of colours and textures. A lovely piece overall
