Owls are pretty cool! I saw lots of crazy variations of screech owls while looking for reference pictures and some of them look like they have real crazy personalities hehe.
I do have to say that Barn Owls always frightened me ever since I was a kid; they have such a creepy look to them. I had a subscription to ZooBooks and when I looked through the issue with owls, I would always skip the page that had a picture of the Barn Owl lol.

i dont know why but i actually like barn owls a lot.. they really are like royalty
but in my eyes the snow owls look like kings and Queens.. lovely, strong and proud, yet filled with honour and justice
im quite crazy about owls^^

Those skeletal hands on the ear tufts are amazing! What kind of tool do you use to get that level of detail?

Ohh very nice textures in the 'horns' of the owl and the wispy feathers beside the beak! I always thought of owls representing Athena, so it will be interesting to see how you paint this in the theme of Hades. Looks great so far!

Thank you!
I was doing some research and found that many of the Greek deities shared the same or similar sacred animals.
The screech owl was supposed to be a symbol of ill-omen and was associated as a messenger of Hades (I think there is a story of how Demeter changed Hades' orchard caretaker into a screech owl).

Aah yes I've seen these Athene owls! One of my good friends (*windfalcon ) works at a raptor center and has sent me pics. Owls are just so cool. Interesting to learn how they've affected the mythology around them.
Baw now you have me wanting to try my hand at bird masks too. They look like fun and I've never tried that! The prospect of a beak scares me away each time.

I may have to try a snow owl. They are my favorite of the nocturnal variety. Brenda gave me some tips on beaks that I'm passing along just in case. She said skiving the beak so it's thinner and easier to mold is a good idea!
But you might know that if you already have the beak forming scars!XD
At any rate, I shall look out for more work from you. Planning to do an entire Greek gods set or just Hades?

wow that is some really nice work! i assume your tooling it before your forming it. and are you just kind of forming it by hand or did you make a block or something for it

Thanks! Yeah, I tool it before I form it. I also do the forming by hand.
