HOw interesting! I am trying to understand why this looks like a mini model of the real thing. it could be because of how strange the dof is. Being a distant shot, it seems weird that the focus would be gradual. Was the blur edited in? It's a really neat shot, I'd be interested to hear something about it.

The reason it looks small is because when you look at something up close, the area of focus is small. Usually, when you look at a large scene, everything to the eye is in focus. When you only have a certain aspect of a large scene in focus, it tricks your eye into thinking it's looking up close.

It's a fake tilt shift edit. It's kind of the latest craze right now; there are quite a few people trying it. If you just google "fake tilt shift" you'll find a billion tutorials.
