I've never actually seen it as a crush, incidentally. I think they see each other as brother and sister, considering they both lost their families. And you have to put up with your brother, even if he's an idiot...

Yes! That's exactly how I see them too-- that's why the canon romance is somewhat icky to me. I can see them as life long friends and nothing more.

They certainly don't have a canon romance in FFXII - not sure about the later games. In XII, they're very much brother and sister. He's a bit dorky, but she looks after him because they've shared all the rough times together.
