Description SHOW: Sovereign Hills Valentines Swing EXTENDED>ENTRIES HERE<

EXTENDED BY TWO WEEKS, NEW ENDING DATE IS FRIDAY, 14th APRIL 2017

INFORMATION:

Welcome, lovers, to our sweetheart themed event! This will be a classic 1 day eventing meet, with the opportunity to enter single classes too, with a laid back, romantic feel in the air. For Valentines Day we have decided to highlight the bond between horse and rider, and as such you may draw an extra image showing their close bond to snag some extra points - however you want to show that special friendship is up to you but it must be a fairly polished piece to get those points, not a sketch.
VALENTINES COLOUR PALETTES:
Use these colours, and anything close to them, to liven up your horse and rider teams garments and get them into the spirit of things! Ribbons, flowers pinned in the hair, feathers

Horse: Constantine
Rider: Andres Falk
Extra/Training Image: New Rider on the Premises

Story:

Andres packed his bag and looked around his room one last time. Moving from Spain to Norway was going to be a big change but one that he was ready for. After the death of his friend he needed a change of scenery. Every time he closed his eyes he could see the blood dripping from his friends face and feel the blood on his hands. He will never forget those moments but it was like living in a fog. Shivering he zipped his duffle bag and swung it over his shoulder. Walking out of the room he looked back one last time at the bed he had known since his childhood. Taking one last breath and stepped out into the unknown.
--a plane trip and boat ride later--
Andres walked off the boat and felt his feet sink into the hot sand. Strange way to get to the stable... Shrugging he trudged through the sand, half-way listening to the tall white haired man explaining the rules of the new place called Elkhorn Lodge. Walking into the cabin he was assigned he looked around. It was a plain room with a bunk bed a little night table and a couple of small windows. Talk about downscale from his last place.... Whatever, this is probably good for him. He was tired after the trip so he decides to kick back and relax.
--a week later--
It had already been a week and he had hardly talked to anyone. The other riders had tried to approach him but he didn't know how to talk to them, it was all to soon to what happened in Spain. Instead he took his time caring for his beloved stallion Constantine. He spent most of his time practicing his dressage in the dressage arena because he could get farther away from the barn. After the week he knew he had to get away again and a show seemed like a perfect opportunity. After approaching the man with white hair again he learned that another rider named Dabriel who was going to a show in Australia. Long trip but hey! What did Andres have to loose!
--a while later at the show--
Andres had never been to Australia before. The ground was very red and most of the plants were yellow and dry. He was surprised to see so many Kangaroo! They arrived at the stable and unpacked their things in a guest area. Taking the horses out to graze they had some "manly bonding time" which included some manly glances and silence. So much for making friends....
The next morning the show started and Andres was brushing Constantine when Dabriel walked up behind him with a black mare he called Eirene. "Hey man! I just wanted to wish you luck today!" Dabriel smiled at Andres and Andres couldn't help but smile back. He nodded in his direction politely but couldn't seem to get any words out. Dabriel smiled again and walked away with his horse following behind. Constantine nudged Andres from his daze and he smiled at his horse. "Okay Constantine, lets go get this done!"

Thank you I love drawing them! Its sort of liberating to draw a horse not associated with a breed group haha!

quickie question, how are you so good with removing the lines of the sketch and painting without any of them? i always struggle with making it look neat and actually good whenever i take off the lines.

Oh, that's easy!!  You do a simple sketch, reduce the opacity of it, then paint UNDER the lines for the base colors and general shadows/highlights/colors. Then refine/detail ABOVE the sketch, covering most of it up. If you look really close at some of the edges the sketch is still there. Sometimes I leave a little bit of it showing cause I think it looks better. It just varies but the majority of the time I haven't painted it without the sketch, just on top of it ^^
