Actually, the first time I saw a creeper I was roaming around my house and saw something on the top of some hill. It looked like a cross until it started to move. I went closer, thought it was harmless, then "ttssssssssssssss"

I didn't know. First monster I encountered was a skeleton, first night, I was digging a hole in the ground and when I went out to see if it was day, there was a skeleton in my way. I had no way to block myself

I hate them! I had a house with a gold floor and one a creeper opened my door walked in and went BOOM!

Oh man I can feel your pain. The bigger, more elaborate things exploding is the worse. All of that time and effort, gone.
Next time I'm building a moat.

Make it out of lava. At the bottom of my house I have an incinerator it's a giant pool of lava, but be sure to make steps in the lava and have a pool of water beside it just incase you fall in. AND don't make the same mistake I did on my first incinerator make that room out of stone not wood I found that out the hard way.
