Description

Mel blows a trail of smoke into the air as she hands the joint back to Soo. Her girlfriend take a puff then makes her eyes wide, pleading. 'C'mon honey...just one more?'

Mel looks over the park to where the old lady shuffles by a park bench. She does look like easy pickings. But she's also tired from a long afternoon mugging the passers-by and really wants to go and get a drink, and then...later, maybe some Netflix and Chill. Snuggle up with her honey...

'Babe...we musta snatched 10 purses or so already today.'

'Thirteen' corrects Soo, who has a good head for figures. 'C'mon! It's bad luck not to round it off! Besides...we're lagging behind Bo and Naomi! You really want them to get top rankings ANOTHER week?' Mel frowns. She hasn't seen their closese rivals since yesterday - or was it the day before that? - but it does annoy her that Bo, an ex-con she used to extort cigarettes from back in jail, is consistently making more scores than she is.

Soo and Mel were lovers, they were crooks, and members of the Leopards, a vicious female street gang where each gang member tattooed their prior crimes and convictions onto their arm (Motto: We don't change our spots for nobody!) that had been terrorising the neighbourhood after a mass breakout from the Lilybank Female Correction Facility. Instead of running off, several of the inmates had taken advantage of the underfunded and lax police department and proceeded to pillage and rob the residents to their black heart's content. Many of the local girls - the delinquents and drop outs mostly, had been 'inspired' by these developments. That's how Mel - formerly inmate 2307 - had met Soo, who'd gone to school three blocks down. Soo had been a fast learner, and had gotten her first 'rap sheet' tattoo in no time. Having committed to a life of crime, Soo was now determined to rise up the ranks of the gang members.

'C'mon!' Soo says. 'She is SUCH an easy mark! We can snatch her purse and be knocking back our first beer in like, ten minutes!'

Mel smiles. She can never say no to Soo. She grabs the joint, takes a final draw, then flicks it away. 'Alright. You wanna be bad?'

Soo take out a brown handle, then flicks it, popping the blade up. She cracks into a wide, wicked grin 'Always.'

Mel takes her own knife out of her jacket and nods, then gives Soo a long, slow kiss. 'Let's do it.'

The two girls saunter over to the Old lady, arms over each other's shoulder. 'Hey Granma' says Mel 'Don't ya know it's dangerous round here?'

Soo slides out from under Mel's arm and paces behind the old lady, who turns, eyes following her.

'Yeah' says Soo, spreading her legs apart and raising the knife, a wicked glint in her eye 'Who knows WHO you could run into?'

Eight minutes later, Soo tumbles unconscious onto the park bench, coming to rest on Mel, who's already slumped there. Soo's knife tinkles pathetically on the ground. You could almost think the two bad girls were having a nice nap. The old lady nods with satisfaction, then takes a seat next to her wouldbe robbers. 'You can come out now' she says.

Michael emerges from behind a bush. He is a tall, strapping Chinese American boy, about Soo's age. 'Wow Granma. You've caught a LOT today. How many is that? Like...7?'

'Something like that.' Lin Huang had been resident in town for over 60 years and had been dismayed to see it overrun by bad girls, her friends and neighbours terrorised and harassed by thugs and lowlifes.

And she'd decided to take action.

Because while, to all appearances a sweet old lady, few realised Mrs Huang had been a mixed martial arts champion in her youth. Or that she used to run a world famous school. Or that she could still pack a punch meaner than a wrecking ball. And a kick.

The Leopards who saw her as easy pickings certainly didn't, which is why so many had found to their horror that the sweet old victim of choice could not only deflect their switchblades with ease, but could roundhouse them into a growing, groaning pile of their own accomplices on the sidewalk. With Michael to clean them up it had been easy to offer herself as bait, beat the criminals up then deliver them to a grateful police department.

Since she'd started on Monday a long line of handcuffed gangster-girls had already been packed into a bus and sent off to county jail - Bo and Naomi among them. Today's haul - Soo and Mel of course, with five other unconscious wouldbe muggers piled up and ready to be picked up by the cops just a block away - had been particularly good. They'd need another prison bus soon.

'I should you get you back to your assisted living' says Michael. 'You'll tire yourself out!'

'Oh I think we could bag a few more before then!' Chuckles Mrs Huang, who doesn't look the least bit tired. 'But let's tidy up after ourselves!' she says, pointing to the two unconscious muggers on the bench. 'I've told you not to leave trash lying around!'

Michael nods, then stops, eyes widening. 'Hey...that's Soo Kim! I dated her in High School! We never did a second date...!'

'I always said that girl was no good.' sniffs Mrs Huang, as Michael lifts the moaning bad girl up onto his shoulder, her butt sticking up and the rest of her dangling over his back. He pats her butt almost fondly. 'Well. I guess we'll never have that second date...say! I wonder if SHE's why my wallet went missing that night?' He pulls the groaning Mel forward until he's able to hook his other hand into the waistband of her jeans. He lifts her up and tucks her under his arm. 'I'll go and drop these off. You take it easy grandma...'

But Mrs Huang isn't listening. She looks over the park to see a tough looking Latina girl with blonde highlights wrestling a handbag from a woman's grasp. She smiles 'Don't take too long' she says. 'I'll need you again real soon!'
