Last night was almost mythical. A pure dream. The short amount of work that Callie had put in with Lana and Sail had paid off that fast. There was no way she wasn’t going to become an important part of the Bailey Oaks team. Even if she was under pretense of White Oak Riding Academy. Sail got his favorite reward for performing so well. Some cheesecake muffins. Of course Lana nipped some of them as well. She took his braids out and gave him another good hose down, making sure he was well pampered before the most trying part of the event. One that they had in the bag as Sail excelled in Cross Country but his well-being came before even thinking about running any course.
“You get some rest, I’m going to go watch our competition.” She gave the black stud a final pat, leaving him to eat in his stall. She ran up to the apartment and changed into more comfortable clothes and grabbed a thin blanket for the breeze that was bound to be coming off the ocean. As she walked back towards the arena she saw Bailey and Callie talking away from anyone. She didn’t want to overhear anything but she did.
“I want to bring Lana here. Permanently for the foreseeable future. With the next futurity in planning and the trials coming up I feel like it’s be easier for her to have everything readily available here. I can run the Dressage portion, and her the Cross Country. We would turn Bailey Oaks into one of those known names.” Callie was pleading for the case.
“It’s really not up to me. As much as I want her to, that’s a conversation to have with Lana.” Bailey crossed her arms. Not mad but more as a hands tied gesture. Callie nodded understanding. Lana continued her walk back towards the lot arena, the crowd absolutely packed. The thoughts of the conversation she just heard over ruling her head.
Lana kept to herself, getting Sail tacked up and ready to go, with the same schedule she had the last two days. She brought him to the arena, starting to recognize more and more faces as her competition finally. All upon powerful steeds. Bailey still found her way to Lana.
“How are you feeling about today? How’s Sail feel?” She inquired.
“I think we’ll do fine. He’s not given me much trouble but is being headstrong. Might work in my favor keeping us under the allowed time though.” Lana’s voice obviously drifting.
“Are you good?” Bailey asked, confused about her tone of voice.
“Yeah I’m fine, just a bit tired after last night, dressage went pretty late. I didn’t see you around so I figured you went to sleep.” Lana replied stalely.
“There’s actually some things we need to talk about, but it can honestly wait until after your run and you get settled down. Callie would like to have a chat with you as well.” Bailey told her. Lana was rather surprised that she just came out and said that a talk was to come. But it made sense giving the seeming urgency.
The starter called out for Lana. It would finally be her turn. She made her way to the beach and the starting box, petting Sail to keep him composed until they were given the ‘go’ that he knew by heart.
“Three, two, one, go!” The starter gave her a go-ahead. Sail launching forward almost leaving her behind even though she’s normally use to it. The morning was rather crisp, not too cold or hot. A slight breeze accompanied the clear sky. Wildlife could be heard rustling in bushes and jumping out of water. There were crowds every once in a while for the foreseeable stretch. The pair approached their first jump, a large log right on the waters edge, leading straight into the forest. Most of the track would be an uphill battle so Lana tried to hold back Sail and keep his stamina for the flats with jumps. While the stallion listened to her, he definitely did not make it easy.
“What do you think about moving here?” Lana had to talk about it now to someone. It was too big of a deal to keep it in for lord knows how long. Sail huffed, evening his breathing out.
“Maybe it’d be less stressful on you. It does seem like we’re over here for most the shows.. plus their facilities are gorgeous and you’d be absolutely babied. Not that you aren’t already.” Lana tried to lighten the mood for herself. Each jump that came was quickly disappearing behind them. Sail was being incredible. Some of these jumps were absolutely crazy. The woods were slowly ending and some creatures seemed to come out to watch. A little white wombat curious as to why his sleep was being disturbed every couple of minutes by thundering noises.
The outlook was quickly coming up, a small creek running along side and eventually cutting across to drop down into the steeper part of the mountain. Sail slowed down to a trot to cross the creek, Lana looking over the Sea and taking in the view. Trying to think that a view like this could soon be their permanent home. Which was not at all a bad thing.
The end of the course was just right ahead. Sail had cleared every jump and Lana let him go. Sail was galloping, soaring almost. Bringing a new wild and free feeling to Lana and solidifying that a move would not be the end of the world and as long as she had her horses that things would work out. The sensor stopped their time and they made their way down the backside of the mountain coming out of the opposite side of the beach that they started on.
"That was an amazing time." Bailey said patting Sail and helping loosen him girth.
"It was incredible." Lana was giddy.
"But, I know about the conversation." She finished.
