This is my latest real media piece, a commission for one of my best friends in California. This was a gift to his wife for her birthday of her pooch Raisin (hence the title)Medium: Acrylic

Raisin, what a great name for a dog. It suits him/her. I like the details and the shading, and the pose. Your scanner kinda hurt the colors, I think, but it still came out very nice. (Art looks much better up close than on a computer screen). His ears and nose could maybe have more details, so he feels more real, since its a realistic painting and all. Its very good for acrylics, that's an awful medium for me. The only paints I'm good with are oils.

Do you sketch in pencil first, then paint or something else?

Yeah usually I put down a very basic pencil sketch straight unto the canvas before I paint over it.

nope, too much lead would smear on the canvas. The rest I fill in with the paint brush
