Description
The heaviest feline of either Earth or Mars, the Behemo Lion (Tauroleo behemoth opilio) or Buffalo Lion is a giant predator of the Tharsis Plateau, a large swath a steppe comparable to the Tibetan Plateau of Earth, of the Kingdom of Fire. It is also the heaviest of the horned felids at around 3 tons in weight. Buffalo Lions are mostly solitary. Groups usually consist of a mated pairs and their young offspring. These cats have a mutualistic relationship with a species of bovid known as the White Bull, descendants of asiatic aurochs that came to Mars via portals, which shares the exact home range of the cat. When male juveniles leave their homes, they will sneak into a herd of White Bulls that isn't already claimed by another lion. They will claim the herd, protect it and will feed off old, sick or weak individuals. They usually never feed on full grown adults and young until it's fully grown. When a female leaves its parents herd it travels to a herd claimed by another male. They will mate and start a family. The male will teach the male cubs how to raise and protect a herd as they grow. When their cubs are old enough, their eldest son will usually take over his father's herd and the other sons will leave to either claim a new herd or take it from another males herd and the females will find a non-related males herd and mate with him. When a lion doesn't or can't own a herd, these cats will sometimes steal from other lions herds if its too injured to hunt. Healthy males without a herd will hunt mostly chalicotheres, giraffoids, young rhinos and young elephants. Because of this unique relationship with the bull, Behemo Lions are considered a near sophont species, a species that’s not qualified to be a sophont but comes very close.
