Description Well I've been trying to think of ways to make my current characters more natural colored, but I love them the way they are.. but why not make a new one? And boom! We have a new character!

This is indeed my first natural colored character! x"D I actually needed a natural colors palette to figure out some colors orz;;

But yes! She is a fox (haven't decided what breed yet).

She's my new excuse to study fox anatomy~ Woohoo~ I've honestly wanted to study it, because I love the body structure of them but now I can study it more!

Also, I do need help with anatomy! That's why this is an open-critique piece, and my first one on this account! :3

I'm very open with critiques so hit me with all you've got!

In your critique..
-You may talk about whatever you wish! Whatever you like, or something that needs improvement (and how I can improve it)
-I'm not really looking for design critique (because this design isn't final) but suggestions are okay!
-Please don't be harsh! There is a difference between critiquing and bashing.
-Disregard the eye shading please I can't help but shade eyes I don't know why @_@

What I'm mostly looking for help on..
-Paws and Leg joints (I am horrible with them XD)
-Head anatomy
-Leg anatomy (in this case front legs)
-Body structure
-Tail anatomy (I need help making it wavy ><)

Something I noticed as typing this: The back leg is too short. XD

Please also tell me ways I can fix these mistakes

Thank you guys!

Oh also I haven't decided on a name quite yet. I have a few in mind.. I'll decide later xD

This is really cute! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> i say good job for your first attempt at fox anatomy!

This is my first attempt at a critique, so please forgive me if it seems like it is all over that place. >.<

now pros:
-I can tell that this is a fox. xD even if she isn't an adult fox. (to me she looks like a fox pup)
-your paws and ears look very accurate e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>... well the face in general looks really nice
-i like how you did the fur. I just want to reach out and pet because it looks really soft >.>

cons:
-no neck definition. give just a little indication of a neck. It looks like the body ate the neck ><
- shorten the legs in the front. they seem a little long for the body of the fox

my best recommendation to learn animal anatomy is look up fox anatomy/tips here on deviant art/look at photos of foxes from google images. that is how I learned the anatomy for wolves and the big cats. I think that if you do that, you will be on the right track! (I hope you find this critique to be useful)

I really look forward to see what you do with this character a.deviantart.net/avatars/e/p/e… " alt=" " title="epichighfiveplz" />

Thank you!

-Yes she is a pup still xD
-I noticed that too! Bahh! I'm so used to feline anatomy nuyrhf *adds to mental list of keep an eye on*
-I see that, no wonder the back legs looked a little off.

Well I did scroll through a nice photo gallery of foxes, I should have took some more notes. I'll have to keep looking! >:C

Thank you for your critique! ^^ It did help a lot!

you're welcome. ^^ glad to help

-^^ well you really captured that nicely
-xD it's okay. it took me a little bit to get used to drawing wolves. sometimes I still think my anatomy is a little shaky o-o
-What I tend to notice about dog like animals, their front and back legs are either level with each other, or the front legs are lower than the back legs.

xD it's okay, it's your first time. this is like your experimentation round. ^^ I think you improve greatly from here ^^

The tails are more down and puffy like example here: [link]

When I need help with anatomy, I look at the skeletal structure of the animal, here's a fox's skeleton [link] I'm not best with anatomy, but I'm practicing.

A tip with tails, Fox tails are bushier than most animal tails, they are also more rounded.
I know this is a fake tail, but it's a good example [link]

bambous In reply to SlLENT [2012-08-25 04:11:50 +0000 UTC]

I do tend to forget to do the skeletal sketch xD (in this case I did). But yes that actually does help a lot in my drawings!

The first link didn't work btw ;;

And I took note of that as I was looking through some fox photography. My style likes everything wavy though, so making a bushy tail will be a new challenge for me! xD

I hope it's fun to try and get the tail right. It was really fun for me actually. ;w;
