Description
Chronis Cornelius is a very enigmatic figure, almost a folk legend across the entire Human Realm.
The oldest mentions of him date back to the distant Cold War era, describing him as an ordinary, if a bit controversial biologist who worked with the Soviet scientists on some of their secret government projects. Somewhere around 1960s, he had disappeared from the records, and was eventually assumed dead – until more than a century later, after the world was permanently altered by the awakening of the ancient bioweapon , a mysterious entity going by the same name had suddenly appeared out on nowhere.
And whatever he had become over all these years, he certainly wasn’t an ordinary human anymore.
Like a ghost or an evil spirit, he started to appear in random places and commit a wide array of nefarious deeds soon after his return.
With seemingly supernatural control over living flesh, he was able to create numerous monstrosities and grotesque biotechnologies of all kinds and shapes. Twisting human bodies into horrific, unnatural ways, both willingly and not. And moreover, he was also rumored to make a number of deals with certain influential individuals across the world, offering his "services" for some mysterious rewards, and is suspected of several kidnappings and violent assaults.
Much like his creations, Chronis’s own body is altered far beyond what is expected from a normal human being. According to witness accounts, he’s able to warp his flesh in all manners of shapes, growing new body parts, rearranging existing ones and recovering from the gruesome injuries near instantly. And while it is tempting to assume that he merely altered himself with the very same mad science he uses to make his brainchildren, certain evidence seems to suggest that the opposite is more likely to be true – someone or something had changed him, turning him into a superhuman being of greater power, and only after mastering his newfound control over his own flesh, he decided to extend it to the other beings as well. Quite peculiarly, his shape-shifting abilities seem to be at least partly powered by the implant, appearing as a red light in the center of his chest. At the core of this implant, there is an ancient relic of Celestial origin, traded from the nobles of Asgard – and although it’s not the source of his powers per se, it acts as a catalyst of sorts. While enhanced far beyond human limit, Chronis is still a flesh and blood creature bound by the laws of biology – and rearranging his entire anatomy takes time and energy. The implant uses an arcane force to accelerate the process, allowing him to warp his own visage in the blink of an eye. The tubes seen across his body are the extension of the implant, containing (and protecting) diffused strands of gray matter acting as his brain. His head, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to have a recognizable brain at all .
Certain rumors also speak of Cornelius having an apprentice, with whom they however parted ways. This apprentice is said to be a creature from outside the Human Realm who, unlike their master, was never a human to begin with. They are rumoured to reside in the "Frontier" area of the Realm, and their workplace was said to become a place of pilgrimage for a number of amateur transhumanists, wishing to transcend their humanity in various unorthodox ways.
