Description

A bio-mechanical creature designed specifically for combat.

Coming from the same “family” of synthetic beings as mediums , storks and mortuary machines , these creatures first appeared somewhere in the early millennia of so called "Golden Age", and had spawned thousands of different variations since then – although most of them still stick to the initial insectile design.

In a world of Assembly, massive advancements in the field of biotechnology had truly profound effects on the ways of warfare. For when the progress reached the point where a living, breathing creature can be created on a conveyer belt, everyone quickly realized that the concept of infantry became egregiously obsolete. Indeed, what kind of barbarian will "recruit" and "train" their troops when you can simply build them on a spot with a snap of a finger!

And as a result, in its modern form, the art of war in the Assembly is fundamentally different from what a human is used to expect. Its artificial soldiers know no fear or doubt, they move with a speed of lightning and hit with a surgical precision, while any bases and aircrafts equipped with necessary machinery can produce them pretty much indefinitely, gathering corpses from the battlefield and recycling them back time and time again! The circuitry in their heads gives them nearly perfect aiming capacity – so in order to counter it, they move in extremely jerky, chaotic and unpredictable ways! For an unfamiliar bystander, the entire battle will look more like an enormous and horrific swarming with no rhyme or reason – and only the experienced tacticians will be able to notice complex strategies and maneuvers in their seemingly sporadic scurry. Many of such tacticians are also the skilled coders, who analyses and write programming of such soldiers for the future wars.

Just like… well, pretty much everything alive in the Assembly, these things are also notoriously hard to kill. Their tissues can functions even when drained of blood, and their nervous systems are highly decentralized, bearing more than a dozen of ganglia, of which they can function with just one!

Dismemberment is a slap on wrist for them, and they can easily regenerate from being torn to shreds. And even if they are too exhausted for healing, they will still fight regardless of their state!

Amidst the battle, you can find severed limbs crawling around!

You can find guts slithering like snakes, strangling unfortunate victims!

Chunks of flesh and shards of bone will writhe of the floor, slowly fusing with each other into new beings!

And by the rule of a thumb, at least one battle in each war will end with all armies involved merging together into a one colossal amalgamation of flesh and metal and proceeding to devour the nearby city.

Yeah, that’s what I meant by “fundamentally different”.

And all that being said, it should be noted that regular people actually do fight alongside these hellish bio-robots – but they are never treated like just regular soldiers! For with the minds capable of reason and millennia-long combat experiences, they are considered the elitest of elite – and so they are equipped with all manner of technological and arcane marvels, making each of them into a one man army! The appearance of merely one such warrior usually completely shifts the course of a battle – and two of them will straight up turn it into a duel!

And oh boy, when such duels happen, the mountains crumble…
