could you recomend some pens for a beginer?

Any, really. Nothing specific. Key is practise...no brand will automatically make anyone a better artist.

That is pretty cool. I would love to see the shiny metallic version. Anywho, love the shadows and the moon.

Thank you!

Aww, I wish I could show you! I already mailed this piece off, so I can't take any photos of it. |D;

hello i am making an interactive 3D photo gallery with a night theme and uploading it to deviant art. i was wondering if i could get your permission to use your artwork in it. every one will be featured in the authors comment and even have the authors name stamped at the bottom or top of the artwork if they would like. thank you for your time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bandarai In reply to nijunava [2010-07-31 13:06:01 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, no. I do not allow my artwork to be used for any such things, especially pieces that were created for others.

Thanks for asking, though.

no problem i didnt really read the comments i just looked at the picture. this is why i asked about 200 people at one point deviant art stoped me from asking because it thought i was a spam bot

A really nice close-up, it's an interesting pose and view-point too, and really well done :3
The dappled effect in the background looks great too, it's quite subtle but it's really effective ^-^

Great use of space! I am trying to make some ACEOs at the moment and I am wondering how to fit everything in so small piece of paper... but I think this is great example how to use it wisely! Great job!

Bandarai In reply to Agaave [2010-06-25 09:49:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I always take a scrap piece of paper and draw some ACEO-shaped boxes on it...then scribble a few different composition ideas. 8D; Otherwise I find it really difficult to draw STRAIGHT onto the ACEO and get the composition how I want it. D:

Agaave In reply to Bandarai [2010-06-26 17:27:43 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

Hey, that scribbling is great idea: it would be good to have ACEO-sized boxed always on hand so if any good pose idea comes to mind there is right size right there. ^^

The very moment I saw this I thought: "This would be so amazing to see IRL!" and I'm really happy that'll happen.
I think you've captured emotion and atmosphere really well in this one. I think the metallic look and sparkles will even increase the almost magical atmosphere in this.
I really like the way you depicted Ryuko. She looks just like herself and the scene fits her really well. Also, I love the way you coloured her. The shadows and lights on the fur are just beautiful though a little stronger highlights - like the ones on the nose - would've been desired because of the bright lightsource. Nevertheless, it can't be denied that the colouring in general is very good looking and the usage of different blue hues is as beautiful.
Anyway, I can't stop admiring the shape or Ryuko's head, you've done it really well. This is really lovely ACEO, I can't form enough words to praise its beauty. Thank you very much for your half! I'll start to work with mine as soon as possible.

Gee, I'm so happy that you like it! Thanks so much for your wonderful comment!

Might I just ask though - as I'm rather new to traditional art - would the highlights look ok done by the same medium as the highlights on the nose, or would coloured pencil work better, do you think? o:

I hope you'll like it even more in real life! The colours are a lot better than the scan shows! XD

ShadeofShinon In reply to Bandarai [2010-06-26 15:54:24 +0000 UTC]

You're very welcome!

I would perhaps first use coloured pencils on highlights and then the medium you used on the nose. I use white ink so I would first use light coloured pencils and then make very thin highlights with ink - that is what I usually do. :> It depends on the light source pretty much so sometimes just coloured pencils are enough. (I love using white ink on my drawing so I have hard time keeping my hands off it. :'D)

I believe they are! Scanners are just colour killers. :<

Bandarai In reply to ShadeofShinon [2010-06-26 17:53:44 +0000 UTC]

Ok! Will try that out on my next traditional piece where the light suits. Thanks much for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Haha, I know how you feel about not being able to keep your hands off a certain medium. XD I'm addicted to my gel pens, LOL!

You work SO well with blues!
I really like how well the black in blended into the blue and the overall night atmophere has come off very well!
I like the pointilism in the moon and sky too!
beautiful <3
