Description ~ My sushi chef surprised me with this cute little creation as a treat -- a slice of salmon wrapped around rice with ikura (salmon eggs) on top. Does anyone know what kind of leaf that is in there? It gave the sushi a light citrus taste...

From the multiple spikes coming out of it I believe that's a shiso leaf. They taste like a strange form of basil, native to Japan. (or at least somewhere in asia ^^u)
This sushi is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with us ^^

I'm guessing the leaf is a basil variety as basil goes well with salmon...
