Description On one hand, it's a commission of a World of Warcraft character I've known for about five years, who was incredibly intimidating to paint because there's been so much RP and story written around her.

On the other hand, like Belmilia [link] before her, Theryl is another character who rather transcends the world of WoW, so she gets real-world armor and a classical touch.

And metal, lordy, all that shiny metal!

Edit 7/22/12: Just repainted her face. Sometimes you just have to do these things!

This is gorgeous and so empowering! Now, THIS is how a realistic warrior-woman looks like. Thank you!Β

This is absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere is fantastic! Makes me think of... Arathi? In WoW terms. I love the realism of this, coupled with the subtle touches like the Alliance emblem on the harness. Also dat metal. Wow.

Thanks very much! The player has been to Scotland so I mostly used references of Scotland for the background, but it reminded me of Arathi as well. Maybe if you enlarged Arathi 20 times it would come out looking a bit like Scotland.

The more I get away from WoW myself the more I keep trying to find ways to make these characters as real as possible but still nodding back to the game world. This was especially challenging because the armor was so authentic, so I'm glad to hear the Alliance lion on the horse did it's job!

I really do like this piece. You superbly captured the medieval flavour, nicely referenced that blog of hers, and also show both why she's beautiful and how it';s an unconventional beauty. I'm actually tempted now to commission after seeing this!

Thanks! Theryl's player is always great to work with for all the little details.

My god, this is beautiful. Just out of curiosity, when did you start drawing/painting/producing art? I just want to know if I have a chance of ever getting this good

Thank you very much! Drawing started as a serious hobby of mine around, gosh, 20 years ago and I've been studying seriously off and on since then. Now I feel old! But yes, it's something that just improves with time if you keep at it, keep exploring, keep learning. Get good books and draw and paint what you love and it will all come together for you.

Okay, this seriously took my breath away. You captured Theryl beautifully. The technique of this though, oh my god. All the detail in the armor, the way it looks like REAL metal. I can do nothing but sit back and applaud you.

This is pretty cool. I like the little details like the men in the background and the guys being hung from trees. Must be natural in WoW to have dead people here and there. xD

Thanks.

Theryl kind of has her own little landholdings, so she likes to keep the peace by hanging bandits from trees now and then.

Oh, so I guess it's sort of a warning to people to avoid stirring up trouble? Certainly seems like it, with the concept of their deaths. '__'

Yep! That's exactly it. If you're gonna be a bandit in Theryl's territory, you're gonna have a bad time.
