I think this looks really great! You captured her perfectly here, without doing a lot of shading or anything which is something I always have problem doing. And the eyes ARE really amazing.

i wish i could draw portraits, but they never come out looking like the person im trying to draw

Well i've been working at it for ten years and i've had a lot of crappy portraits.

ive wanted to be an artist my whole life (well as for long as i can remember).
but i normally make up the people i draw.
but i need to start working on other stuff, so i think im gonna try the portraits next.
any pointers?

find someone who's face has charisma. a picture of them with high contrast (a good light source on one side or the other). start off with pictures where there face isn't dead on looking at the camera, maybe slightly to the side but not a full profile shot. try and find a large picture, too. other than that, it just takes practice. I usually start with one eye. when you've done one and submitted it, come here and tell me so i'll know to see it!

i try not to think of it as an outline. it's shapes and colors. for instance, lips are always different shapes. and when you look at someone's lips they don't have a line around the edge, it's just that they're lips are a different color than their skin. something to think about.
