Description While brainstorming for a recent commission I hit upon an idea for an advanced/futuristic pony combat armor suit. I have no idea what I will do with it concept. Maybe it would be appropriate for the Fallout Equestria universe but I am not knowledgeable enough about that world to know it would work there or not. If nothing else it was an interesting intellectual exercise for about an hour and half of work.

I hope you like what you see. Please help make more art like this possible by supporting me at Patreon Β

it would be very appropriate for the Fallout Equestria universe.... its basicallyΒ  power armer

I think if go further with it I may move the weapons forward a bit or change out the type of weapons. Also if I made them steel rangers I'd probably give the design a more 1950's look to fit with the Fallout design sense.

Β what you can do is make the guns swing foward into a better firing position and then swing back when not in use for movement and have them mounted on aΒ  sort of track system so you can change the weapon system as needed

I'll probably play with it more in the future. It was more a case mental brainstorming and satisfying an itch in the back of my head.

Give it the 'Evil Eye Gunsight'.Β  Whereever the user looks the guns aim.Β  And mount the guns on the shoulders and you eliminate the chances of hitting the shooter's head.

(Edit Β  Also I wouldn't put the smoke, flare, and chaff launchers on the head. The recoil is pretty heavy from those kind of launchers so I'd mount them on the flanks with a set on each side.

I'd go for a laser weapon. You can gimbal mount the focusing lens so it can still be a turret, and you don't have to worry the noise. A laser weapon that size would probably use flash pellets and not electricity as its power source, so you can keep everything else the same. Just replace the gun turrets with a laser and your fine (a laser turret looks just like a dome-shaped security camera). For standard combat use, a focusing lensΒ of 6cm diameter would be acceptable, although larger is always better if you can mount it.

That;s going to be LOUD. Even suppressed. There will be a supersonic crack right next to the shooter's head as the bullet enters open air... less, perhaps, than if the vented gasses were also supersonic, but there will still be the bullet-crack.

If the bullet is subsonic (like, say, the .300 Whisper), it's still going to sound like a .45 being fired next to your head, or a blackpowder large-bore pistol. SOmeone's ears are gonna be ringing, even with active noise suppression.

If there's any way to get the muzzle forward of... um... the muzzle... that would go a long way toward preserving a soldier's ability to hear Kate Bush.

One advantage of making the barrels longer and going in front of the muzzle of the pony is that you'd know your head wasn't in front of the barrel. Β

I guess the barrels could be lengthened or just use energy weapons instead. Like I said it was brainstorming.

You could also go with the "Battle saddle" design used in Fallout Equestria:Β derpicdn.net/img/2012/8/16/756…

Lower weapon placement keeps muzzle flashes and potential hearing loss down.

Or perhaps switch to a slightly different weapon with a lower rate of fire, and less muzzle flash, and larger round. My suggestion, the XM25, which is an airbursting grenade launcher Β that the head lasers would use for range finding, then you just shoot a round at that distance, and boom, instant dead baddies:Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-7L0F…

The only issue is you'd need a larger 'turret' with a larger calibur barrel. But it's an idea.

That gun going off near the side of your face is not too cool. Lots of pressure there. A muzzle flash/pressure dispersal attachment may be needed.
I got up too close to the muzzle end of a M2 50 cal one time....the pressure wave slapped my head like a punch knocking my steel headgear aside.
I only did it one time.
We pulled up in a jeep behind a M60 once. It fired and the pressure broke out windshield and knocked the distributor off while the jeep was running. My ears rumbled for days.
Now if this gear is an energy weapon.......

That was another reason for make them suppressed, and the fact you're wearing a full helmet.

Veteran1972 In reply to Baron-Engel [2017-01-10 04:34:26 +0000 UTC]

Suppressing however really pulls the velocity down.
Can make an armor piercing become an armor denting.
The full helmet would help but the shockwave would still rattle the headgear. Could mess up aiming on a rapid fire. Like recoil only it's a head slap!

I'm thinking of either extending the barrels further or just making them energy weapons. Assuming I do anything further with the concept.

Veteran1972 In reply to Baron-Engel [2017-01-10 04:50:44 +0000 UTC]

They would be okay to just past the helmet muzzle.
The shockwaves would be in front of his helmet.
That's not much on the picture. It's nearly there and it keeps the head out the way of the barrel. At head turn one barrel would be just at his muzzle close to his cheek. One could deal with that closeness.
Even have the weapon designed to only fire one side if too much deflection on the other turret. An interrupter so to say.

Maybe it would be appropriate for the Fallout Equestria universe but I am not knowledgeable enough about that world to know it would work there or not. This could definitely make for a sort of prototype Steel Ranger battle suit.

Additionally, if you made a variation with wings and a segmented scorpion tail and tweaked the design to look more "fearsome" and H. R. Giger-like, it could also be Enclave power armour.

The armor style just sort of reminded me of the UEE (United Earth Empire) Marine Heavy Combat Armor.
