Description
Petina has something of a fetish for water games. Particularly costume wear like mermaid and similar suits which she is often quite active while wearing them. Commission: Afternoon swimRound and around. Dive buddies. Hobbies. Good Seal of approval.
However sometimes she wants chill and float around underwater. For that she has had a special suit made that is pattern to make her look like a Betta fish.link The suit is carefully tailored to her and can have its weight slightly altered to give her neutral buoyancy. This means she has to use very little energy just to float in the middle of the glass bowl full of water, and since she can hold her breath for almost 2 minutes she can give a rather convincing act of being a fish. Of course for safety reasons she always has a spotter standing by to assist her.

Yep that way the suit looks like body and so on. In fact Petina will often wear a white bikini because it make it look like she's not wearing anything when she is.

I really like these; getting to see how much enjoyment she gets out of her water escapades is relaxing to watch in it's own way. This one almost feels like an exotic twist on classic mouse bottle-dancing.
I can understand her desire to remain underwater unaided... have any of you ever looked into setting up a small tank/bowl for her filled with a PFC, or other breathable liquid? The CO2 exchange rate might not work well for the exertions of swimming all around in her seal suit, but for just floating around like this, could stay under for hours without breaking the surface once~
tangent: has she started playing around with any water-breathing spells in Equestria yet? After the income from getting a book or two on the market (as well as the money from the cloud-writting business), I could imagine her commissioning a mer-pony suit and building herself an nice little koi pond next to the house to float around in. ^_^

Jackie and Petina have experimented with several variants of fluid breathing system but have not found one they like. They've also considered surgical implants from the 24th century that would let them breathing underwater.
She hasn't gotten herself a seapony suits but she has played around with some of possibilities magic can offer in Equestria.

Perfluorcarbons will fit the bill quite well, no made-up scifi mumbo-jumbo gubbins needed here! If you ever have seen the film Abyss, there is a scene where an actual mouse is breathing (successfully I may add) a liquid.
Humans can't breathe liquid unassisted due to the greater density of the fluid, but mice can do it just fine...

went over that already: they've tried several different types of fluid breathing systems, but haven't found one that they like yet; Also, there could be something to the purity of the experience, of wanting to breathe/swim in ~water~, not simply a liquid.

Because when you're around Petina you'll often be wondering that. Twilight thinks Petina's special power is corruption, but in reality it is more persuasion. Petina has this amazing ability to talk people into doing things usually would never do. She has this way making people go along with ideas often without having to brow-beat them or strong arming them into do it.

Joking aside, that's adorable. And given my love of mermaids and the like, that's definitely something enjoyable to watch. I do have to ask tho, why doesn't she use a mask with an air-line?

There are occasions when she'll use an air-line under certain circumstances. Especially when she's in certain types of containers, but often she is interested in the challenge of seeing how long she stay submerged with just a lung full of air.

Heh, she's doing better than I, in that regard. but then I was born with a rather common birth defect of a collapsed sternum, which rather sharply limits the air capacity in my lungs (enough so a surgery was done when I was 4 to partially pull it out to relieve me of the Asthma it caused).
