Description Growing up in Southern California in the 1970's and having a dad who was a big fan hot rod/racing/ custom car scene I spent many a weekend hanging out at race tracks, car shows and garages. These were the amusement parks of my life along with airports, hobby shops, gun shops, model competitions and libraries. In fact I was drawing vehicles and technology years before I seriously took up figure drawing.

There is something wonderfully minimal about classic hot rods. Like sports cars of the era one of the easiest ways to improve performance was to remove any unnecessary material from the vehicle. Weight was enemy. The aftermarket automotive performance industry was only in its fledgling form so stripping a vehicle of its fenders, bumpers and top were often prudent performance decisions. Besides if you were working on you car all the time the stuff just got in the way.

Something the simpler things work best.
Hm, since I just went from watching the Wachowskis' live-action movie with my little half-brother a million times on DVD -were you into Speed Racer?
