Description More study sketches I did for the 1944 Luftwaffe commission picture. I didn't just want the aircraft parked by themselves in the picture, I wanted the scene in look like a real airfield in use. Not some model diorama.

I ended up not using the Opel fuel truck in the final piece and I decided on making the airfield tractor an open top design instead. These decisions were based on a desire for cleaner silhouettes and to stop tangents from occurring. The classic example being the telephone pole coming out of someone's head in a photograph. Besides in the case of the tractor the roof looked kind of flimsy and I could imagine it being removed by the airfield crews if it got damaged.

The middle sketch shows how the aircraft can be safely towed by the tractor. The only thing forgot was that someone has to be sitting in the cockpit to operate the aircraft's brakes. Oops!
