Description

Another moment from the anthro Sword and Sorcerer MLP dream I had a month or so ago.          It's also a patron reward for  .  In the dream Octavia had been young musician who was captured by slavers and made the personal property of the slave trader Bloody Hoof. Instead of selling the earth pony the slave trader made Octavia part of her personal entourage.

For several years Octavia served Bloody Hoof, but always she looked for a means to free herself from her plight. Finally fate smiled on the young mare and she was rescued when Bloody Hoof's caravan strayed to close to Equestria borders and Royal Sisters decided to conduct a raid across their borders in the hope of capturing the slaver. They raid didn't succeed in its primary mission, but it did result in the rescue and release of many, but not all, of slaves in the caravan. Octavia was amongst the lucky ones.

Almost all of the slaves had been former subjects of Equestria, and the Royal Sisters worked to help them regain their former lives. However the fire in Octavia's eyes caught the attention of Celestia, and alicorn took the earth pony under her wing. Under her tutelage the musician found she was actually not just great musician but also an excellent Battle Bard.

Now trained, Octavia operates as an independent agent of the Crown seeking to bring Bloody Hoof and her kind to justice. The mare still wears her slave collar. She does it to remind her of all those ponies still enslaved, and of the one pony who claimed her as her own. Octavia will remove it when Bloody Hoof pays for what she's done.

This Saturday 3/14/20 starting at 5:30pm Pacific PDT I'll be streaming on Picarto.

I know this is from your dreamscape but, as I look at it, I can well imagine her being in Georgia looking for a soul to steal.  The background and the look on her face gives me that impression.

Okay, I'm watching this dude! His pencils are always drop-dead gorgeous!

The only question is, does he use fixative to fix the graphite in place?

I'll spray fixative on the pieces after I finish them, but I rarely do I do it during the actual production of the artwork. Still need to do it for this piece.

Bloody Hoof has made another enemy today, and it isnt the Crown or Octavia.

Probably a good thing Im not there, Id have to find this Bloody Hoof and pay him a visit.

I wanted to give up the rogue life, but it seems I must carry on one last time

I had to look twice, the thumbnail made it look like the scabbard was for her bow, not the sword, LOL. That said, this is very well done, both the story and how she looks. Pretty obvious WHY he kept her as a slave... tho I imagine staring too long at said assets would get a rude interruption by sword.

Artist looks at the scabbard for the grosse messer then looks at the violin bow. Looks back the sword/knife scabbard. Artist jots down notes for future drawings.

Since the scabbard for the grosse messer already has auxiliary scabbard for a knife, and I've seen had scabbards with homes for multiple knives or even a fork and spoon. So the idea of it scabbard also acting as a home for the violin bow is kind of neat.

If only you knew how much we used to pretend those bows were swords....

I used to play the violin. And yes, treating the bow kinda like a rapier for both jokes and/or silliness is actually pretty common, especially for kids (which I was).

Also thinking about it you'd want some type of protection for your bow while traveling. I figure she's got at least some form of wrap for the violin/fiddle.

Well, it IS Equestria. Who's to say she isn't using some sort of magic bow? Or magic case? Or magic anything, really.

Besides being an decent fighter with her grosse messer and the second smaller messer or dagger, Octavia's special talent was that she could make the words of songs she sang or the music she played come to live in spectral form to do her bidding. Kind of more advanced version of 5th edition D&D's Spiritual Weapon or Spiritual Guardian.

Love the crossguard on her short sword. ^^
Very nice detail with the extra finger guard beyond the usual cross.

You mean the short bar projecting 90 degrees from the cross? That apparently is referred to as 'the nail' by many. It seems to be a trait found on many messers and grosse and lange messers.

Yarp, precisely that. ^^

Very amusing to see such historic details in artwork.

Well I've always been a history buff, and I have done historical illustrations I guess I've got an eye for such stuff.
