Description I finally saw Avatar -in 3D!- on Saturday, and I promised myself on exiting the cinema that I would draw at least one fanart for it.
I hope DA isn't too tired of seeing these blue critters. *is shot*

Although the story/dialogue was a little lacking, the effects and splashes of sparkle and dayglo colour more than made up for it in my eyes. XP The anatomy of the ~blue cat peeple~ was nuts, though... I had a hard time believing that they could stand upright with those tiny waists. x_x

But, um, yeah, here's Jake Sullllyyy!!

I love the way you colored this. What program do you use? Photoshop over pencil lines with custom brushes?

I think it was a pencil drawing coloured in Paint Tool SAI.

I just saw the movie today in 3D!!

It was an amazing movie but mostly, as you said, in the visual parts. But the story was still enjoyable I guess~ I loved the dragon things and stuff. XD
I got a bit disturbed by their anatomy too ahah! XD

Thanks! hehe a friend reminded me of the fact that they had denser bones and lived in low gravity, but I would have imagined they would have a bit of back trouble supporting the weight of their muscular torsos... I'm overthinking this lol XD

Basically Disney's Pocahontas with shiny blue people, but I really enjoyed the experience. I really like the brush stroke glow at the bottom :3

He's so beautiful~ This is so professional, it looks like it could have been concept art right out of the studio's computer

Despite the lackluster story, I still enjoyed all the wonderful visuals. I wish they had spent more time exploring the world~

Haha yeah, I live in the Netherlands! We'd almost be neighbours if it weren't for that damned sea!

I was suddenly thinking, "oh shit, what if it's gone from the cinema and I'd actually really enjoy the effects?". I mean, you hear everyone go IT'S POCAHONTAS, OVERDONE BOOO BAD MOVIE, but I'm not really known for my great taste in movies and tv shows, haha. And if you'd buy the dvd it's just not the same... not in 3D! So I'm gonna watch it this Sunday with a friend.

Sorry for the long story haha. ^^ I'll maybe try drawing them too. I'm just really insecure about my drawings, that's why I barely have any up on dA.

DA better not be tired of Na'vi. This is a good artwork. And I agree the Na'vi were a bit TOO skinny.
What we're tired of is people photoshopping themselves blue and sticking on Jake's eyes and Neytiri's ears-and thinking they're clever.

Thanks! I was a bit confused by the 'me as a na'vi avatar' influx of pictures until I saw the film myself and knew what they were going on about... I agree that it's a shame there isn't much good drawn fanart for it ):
