Its the Ordovician Period. Earth looks like a desert waste land, the ocean is teeming with life. Many animals we see today lived back then. Squids and scorpions, to name a few. During this period of time, the ocean is ruled by squid.
Today we are following a male Orthacone. These nautiloids are related to today's squids and octopus. Orthacones can reach up to 30 feet in length, and are the most dangerous animals up until this point in time. Our male is hunting. He spots a coiled nautilus and strikes. He crushed the squid with his beak.
Feeling satisfied, he swims away. Later that day, he is attacked by a Eurypterid. Eurypterids are related to scorpions, but are the size of a crocodile. The male orthacone has been manages to do well until several more Eurypterid attack. The old male succumbs. He didn't stand a chance.
Next time, fish take over the ocean, and one group leaves the ocean behind.
