If I had to bet on anything, I would bet on Hero being the one to subdue the void king and complete the experiment. Seeing Notch having second thoughts, I bet he wanted to complete the task himself because of his loyalty to the creator. I would also conclude that to be the reason he is so protective of Steve, because, on a subconscious level, he would not want to destroy something he created, even if he was under the creator's influence.
