If i remember right the altar was in it. So the pyramid was there before the barrier, witch is why it didn't fade away like everything else.

Everyone in the town is technically "dead" but is being kept alive through Necromancy. The barrier was created by Samar and Ryelle to keep everyone inside it healthy and alive
