Description  Midwifes  protect the eggs that are stored in incubators and help the serpent babies to hatch. Another duty of the midwifes is to sort the eggs according to their "perspective" - the eggs from which can hatch babies with traits of Forefather  are considered the most promising and stored in a separate incubator. Sometimes such eggs are midwifes worn on their necks, probably for safekeepping.
Representatives of the higher circles (the serpentmen's caste) gives their own neck spikes or teeth to the midwives as a sign that they were born under her supervision. By the number of such gifts is determined by how experienced midwife and the how old is she.

Ohh they do indeed have snake-like faces after all. I always thought they didn't or were like more like scolices and therefore, pieces such as armor were shapped to emulate their missing serpentine feautures.

I had an idea to make this race close to human faces, but for some reason (I don’t know for what reasons) I did everything a lot more banal, and probably it doesn’t look so interesting anymore.

Nah, man. Your serpentmen race is cool and interesting the way you've designed them so far.

Howecer, if you do want to add different traits or features you can always create a sub variant of their kind according to your lore

Oh her face is creepy! I like it.

The shading, highlights, and overall subtle texturing on her back/tail scales steal the show; the effect is almost metallic. This was done with graphite?

Really love this one, makes me think of that slug creature from Solo if you know what I'm referring to.
Question, did the wings on her back used to be active? Or are those not wings?

These wings are a rudiment. They are one of the traits of the Forefather of all these creatures. The more such traits the serpentman has, the higher is his position in society.

Fascinating - is this part of a larger story?

I (like many others I hope) try to create my fantasy world full of diverse races, etc. All the characters and creatures which I recently  painted unites one world. So we can safely say - this midwife is part of a some big story too.
