Base let his eyes circle the room, trying to avoid any suspicious or attention grabbing movements. The SWATbots had them on all sides and no matter what angle Base looked at the puzzle from he could not single out enough pieces to form a picture of escape.

"Any plans genius?" the impostor in the Red Rose costume barked at him.

Base's eyes narrowed and he turned his head to look over his shoulder at them. They were back to back, the smaller Rose ready to pounce, body at the ready to brawl; his own posture straight and steady, any movements from below his neck hidden by the thick red cloak he wore over his lightweight body armor.

"I'm thinking of letting them beat you to death while I climb out of a window. How does that plan strike you?" Base snorted,"We're in this situation because you just needed to play dress up, kid."

"You're in costume too, pal." the Rose retorted,"Someone needed to play the part of costumed hero, after you ditched the mantle and the second Rose disappeared."

Base spun to face the smaller Mobian,"Role?! This isn't a stage play! You die and you're gone, there's no exit stage right in this!" he snapped.

"I know that! I just wanted to be able to make a difference! If I can't do that as my boring old self, then I'd do it as the Red Rose."

The SWATbots were advancing, their arms raising, the red glow of their wrist-mounted lasers drawing the attention of the bickering costumed Mobians.

Base let his posture and form loosen, preparing for the sudden movement he would have to take to avoid a direct strike of the SWATbot's oncoming attack. His fingers brushed along his belt, searching for a specific set of pockets.

"So..." the smaller Rose said finally,"...what happened to the second Rose?"

The same thing that's going to happen to us, unless I can make this work.

"If we make it out of this alive, I'll tell you." his fingers found the pockets, finding a series of magnetic mini-EMPs his father, Sir Charles had designed as a successor to the original needle design. The small round EMPs were about the size of an odor eater for shoes or a ping pong ball.

"Been in this type of situation before?"

Base nodded his head while gathering a palmful of the small magnetic orbs as he mentally prepared himself.

Focus, hedgehog.

The Rose sighed and looked back over their shoulder at him,"Any suggestions, boss?"

Base examined the placement of the SWATbots around them, deciding which needed to be neutralized first.

"Shut up, stick and move. They're aiming where you're going, not where you are, so if you hear them shoot then freeze in place and then..." Base's arms shot out from under his cloak, the magnets zipping through the air at their intended targets,"RUN!"
