Organic tanks, which seem to be inspired by armadillos and tortoises. Perhaps a way more effective mount than Elephants, since they seem to be hard to kill. Plus, if they are reptilian, their brains might be smaller and hence harder to hit, which makes them even harder to kill, even with arrows.

the creature depicted above is the unarmored Charr, a civilian steed; as described in chapter 2A1, Blackstone's gnomes had just developed this and figured out how to make it militarily useful 23 years ago. the problem was, with its limited size, when they put even light barding on it, the crew was reduced to two or three, making it in effect a war elephant like you said (but lower to the ground). thus encumbered, it proved to be of limited maneuverability, and when another brief war broke out about twelve years ago, they were roughly handled by Hannetzbirger cavalry using ordinary lances. Blackstone needed something bigger, stronger, to carry a ballista with a crew of six, and heavier barding
by the end of that war, the definitive Pondsehr came out, which we saw in chapter 1A2. more than twice as massive as the Charr, the Pondsehr was purpose built, and while there are cargo-carrying variants of the ordinary Charr, the Pondsehr is strictly a military use steed. I know it's not linguistically correct, but the Blackstonians call it a Pondsehr, but the Hannetzbirgers knew the first ones they fought were called Charrs, so they still call the uparmed and uparmored ones Charrs (this is featured in a later chapter). the reason for this weirdness is because back in the late 1980s when I was a kid, I came up with the Charr and Pondsehr before Blackstone was given a Rus inspired background, and Hannetzbirg was a late creation with a Germanic inspired background you'll see more weird names from chapter 8 onwards

It's like a rhinocerous, a turtle, and the seat of a roller coaster combined. It looks so content. Just sitting there. Being awesome.
