could be. I never asked Simon about that... the above ground looked warmer but the below ground parts of this game all looked stony or metallic and cold. and the final boss seemed to reside in a large black cave area with no fire or anything like that...

Hehe, the Switchblade series never were the mainstream type |D
I never played SB1 (though the ingame track was cool), but I loved Switchblade 2 ^^ (which on the flipside, had no music at all, save for the opening track).

true... I guess Rick Dangerous was more popular by the same creator.
heh, I'm the other way round, I had the first one and never got to play the second properly. but I guess there must have been a reason they went on to make a sequel... I thought the first was pretty dang cool anyways.

SB2 was really bloody hard at times, but it felt awesome once you actually beat it... the first 2 stages were pretty much the most tedious ones (way too long and troublesome at times).

the gameplay/controls got tweaked a bit for SB2 which made it a bit smoother to play? there were parts in the first where you could get trapped by enemies at times by a recoil animation, and you had to get good with the jumping mechanics. overall I think the first is more atmospheric and is nostalgic for me, but a lot of people seem to remember the second one more. I might check out the second if I can find it. Just a bit disappointed Simon didn't have anything to do with that one... I kinda like when creators get to stick with their stuff (if they want to, that is).Β

Well, lets just say those are some of the things that made the first 2 stages so tedious... the first one had a lot of enclosed space, when you travelled along underground tunnels, now the recoil thing there, now that was one hell of a nightmare... many times the same enemy/hazard could hit you multiple times or outright kill you off... and your jumping skills were put to a serious test in stage 2, where you had to get to the top of a mountain by jumping around a shitload of platforms |D
Yet if you got through these, the rest of the stages were pretty awesome (especially the city stage during a rainy night), and I would say there were pretty atmospheric too. But yeah, nostalgia is different for everyone XD

Well, feel free to watch some gameplay on youtube, I'm pretty sure Cubex55 has done a longplay of it ^^
