First Aid is one of the head doctors at Ponyville General and one of the most well-respected. She was introduced to medicine at a very young age: as a filly she was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had to be hospitalized for treatment. She was very scared and for a time it looked like she might not survive. As she got better and watched the doctors and nurses undertake different duties and administer different medications to help her, her curiosity overcame her fear. She was always asking the nurses questions about their jobs and learned not only about her own disease but other illnesses as well. On some occasions she even got to shadow the nurses on their rounds, when she was feeling well enough and the other patients were okay with it. One night during a particularly bad thunderstorm First Aid heard a thump from the room next to hers and went to investigate. The elderly stallion staying in the room, who suffered from severe anxiety, had been frightened by the storm and had tried to get out of bed; he landed on the ground wrong and broke one of his front legs. First Aid calmed him down long enough to go get one of the nurses and then stayed with him while the nurses and doctors set his leg back into place and brought him back to his room. When he thanked both her and the nurses for their help, First Aid felt so good she knew that helping other ponies must be her destiny, and she got her cutie mark. Her Lymphoma eventually went into remission and she saved up enough bits to be able to go to medical school in Manehattan.

First Aid is a determined doctor who feels strong connections with her patients. She's caring and empathetic, and often treats and/or cure those ponies other doctors have already put expiration dates on. Her attitude towards them is almost motherly and she'll go to any lengths to protect them even if she winds up breaking rules and getting into trouble. She tends to take the blame when things go wrong and at some times even falls into a deep depression over it. She also drives herself into the ground, working 12 and 15 hour shifts at a time that leave her exhausted. Nevertheless, her love for both her job and her patients is obvious in everything she does, and she wouldn't have her life any other way.
