Description Late Miocene of Kazakhstan. Couple of the otter-like carnivores, Semantor macrurus, wandered along the shoals in the estuaries and suddenly noticed a seal coming into the river mouth.
Semantor is known by the back half of its skeleton, so nobody knows what his head looked like. It was once thought to be a trasitional form between mustelids and pinnipeds, and shoulder bone from the same locality was described as also belonging to Semantor. However recent studies have shown that this bone most probably belongs to a true seal, which therefor occured contemparary and in the same area as Semantor.
